I'm a fan of over unders myself. I'm actually going to shoulder some today. Headed out in a few minutes. I'm not a fan of semi autos. When I was shooting yesterday with a gentleman, I watched his semi auto not cycle a number of times and he would miss the second bird with a click. Over unders aren't as picky with ammo. Plus over unders give you the option of two different chokes for trap doubles. So another reason I'm personally looking at over unders. But that's what I want. There are always pros and cons to both.Comment

The new Franchi's that were on the cover of American Rifleman a few months ago are really, really sharp looking and were rated as very good shooters. Franchi has a good rep and these are reasonable cost. I would check 'em out.

The store I went to had zero OU's. But I did buy a limb saver for my existing OU. Gotta keep shopping around. I guess these guys went from shotguns and rifles to mostly AR's they were extremely helpful in finding the limbsaver though. It's not listed for my gun, but the fit is perfect. I just need to groove the screw holes a little bit to get it to fit 100%Comment

Glad you enjoyed the clinic!!
As a first skeet gun you really can't beat a Skeet Only Browning Citori. The fixed skeet chokes on those guns causes them to sell for lower then a similar one with choke tubes. If you can find one with a 28" skeet barrel, that would be what I recommand. They run around the $1K mark.
A lower cost atternative would be a skeet barreled Remington 1100. I've seen those around for around $400 or so. I've use one of those as a comp gun for about 2 years and never missed a beat.Wanna learn to shoot SKEET? I am here to introduce all shooters to the sport of SKEET Shooting ....

I would second the Browning recommendation. Nice guns that'll take you to a fairly serious level.
If you like skeet shooting a 12 gauge, wait till you shoot a 28 or 410. You'll never get that smile off your face.
Check out pacificsportingarms.com or Joel etchens. They usually have some nice used skeet guns for sale. Pacific Sporting is in Azusa.
Enjoy and best of luck with your new hobby!Comment

skeet
semi autos check out remington 1100 or 1187....winchester sx3 are very good also.....i love semis for skeet..trap...sporting clays and hunting...i have a few browning o/u,s that i use more often in the clay games just because easier to load ,unload and CLEAN!!!!! and i look great missing with them too!!! go to a clays course where you can rent shotguns before you lay down the BIG bucks....have fun....cheers....Comment

You need to spend around $1200, and pick up a Browning Citori Satin Hunter.... Any new O/U that's less than one of these is generally a waste of time.. In terms of semis a Beretta 390/391 and Remington 1100 are both good choices for gas guns... If you want a recoil operated gun, give the Benellis a look..Last edited by .300 Weatherby Mag; 04-21-2012, 11:04 PM.sigpicComment

clays
yes to 11-87.....they have 3 in. chamber...1100 have 2 3/4 chambers mostly.. 3 1/2 in. chambers will shoot 2 3/4 and 3 in shells also....good hunting guns but maybe a little heavy swinging for skeet....berretta also makes good semis but over 1k usually new.....very important to get removable choke tubes in barrels....they will widen your shooting options for your shotgun....cheers...Comment

Buy a $400 1100 and spend the rest on ammo. Keep it clean and it will treat you right. If you buy a middle of the road over under it will kick the crap out of you. Then if you ever get serious about skeet you will sell it and lose money. If you buy a $400 1100 you won't ever lose money and they shoot great.Comment

I would recommend that you continue to use this shotgun and spend time at the range rather than on a new shotgun.
Practice cycling the action while the gun is still shouldered after each single. After time you will not even think of the pump cycle and just do it from muscle memory. After a short time will find it just as easy to break doubles with a pump as it is with any other shotgun.
Have fun.Last edited by Thefeeder; 05-01-2012, 11:43 PM.Comment
