Anyone bought or shot an Akdal MKA1919?

Have you shot one or better yet, own one? Seems like a viable contender to the Saiga. I like the Saiga 12 but I am not crazy that right out of the box, I have to spend a considerable amount of $$ to get it reliable and to do the conversion.

Besides, it looks like the fat cousin of my AR rifle! ;-) The price is good and I could even shoot some sporting clays with it. Seems like a fun, cool gun with better out of the box reliability than the Saiga.

Sweet TZL. I have gone 'round and 'round with buying a Saiga 12. I have shot and seen some that I really like but I know that when all is said and done, they take work, time and some luck to get a reliable shooter. And I will undoubtedly be shooting birdshot at least half of the time. When i read about "Vodka Specials", the availability of the right parts, QC issues with the gas ports not being drilled properly, etc. it gives me pause. I don't have the time to deal with "customizing" a Saiga, (not just the conversion, but the testing with various gas plugs and springs, etc.) I am way too busy at this point in my life.

A Saiga seems more like an ongoing project that I would have to deal with, rather than a gun that I can just buy and shoot. Tony Rumore from Tromix, even though he has made his fortune in customizing the Saigas, has posted all over the web how impressed he is with the MKA 1919. The price is certainly right. My local shop has one sitting there for $899.00, which is overpriced. I may go see them and offer what I can get anywhere on the web, which is about $730.00 with a BB installed and see what they say.

Seems like a winner and I would definitely freak out the trap guys to show up with one of these rather than my Red Label.

I have a magwell on one of the four saigas, but am looking forward to the 1919 ar-style mags

How many of your Saigas were reliable without a lot of tweaking and work on them?

My local dealer would be $899.00 + tax + DROS = $989.00 OTD
I can buy one from Atlantic for $699.00 + $40.00 BB + $25.00 shipping + $55.00 transfer + Tax = $870.00 OTD
Riflegear would be $750.00 + $65.00 transfer + tax = $877.00, but it would take about $50.00 worth of diesel for me to drive all of the way down to Riflegear and back twice.

I think my best bet is to negotiate with my local dealer. If I can get them to go to the Atlantic price or the Riflegear price, I will be money ahead.

Over at Brian Enos forums in the 3 gun competition topic, shotgun sub forum, there is a lot of information on on them. Some guy has been doing modification to get them to run for 3 gun competition. Also a lot of Saiga information on Enos.

I will check that out. Would that also be a good primer to learn all about 3 Gun? It sounds like something I would like, I want to become a well-rounded shooter.

Assuming TZL is who I think he is, his 1919 is in my gun jail right now. I'm not quite sure what to think about it. It is very light and "airsoftish", but freakishly cool. It's got to whack you pretty good as light as it is. I guess if he does the mods he described he could use a entidine recoil reducer in place of a plain buffer tube. I think I'll wait for his first hand experience report before bringing one in for stock.

The only light shotgun I have shot was a Mossberg, some sort of tactical model with a poly stock. It was pretty brutal with heavy loads, not fun to shoot. Easy to get cheek slap, even with your face pasted to it.

I would think that the buffer/gas system in the MKA 1919 would help eat some of that recoil though. All of the reviews point to the fairly slim recoil pad. I wonder if there is a way to adapt a nice, thicker recoil pad? My trap gun is a Ruger Red Label SC and recoil is never an issue with it, it is very comfortable although I don't shoot magnum buckshot loads out of it.

Yup its me.... I thought about the Recoil reducer, I'll try a stock with a limbsaver first and see how it goes...

I shot a rental MKA-1919 yesterday at the Islandview Enterprises range. The gun felt pretty light for a shotgun. Pretty much like comparing an AR15 to any other rifle. I only shot some low base 7 1/2's, but the recoil seemed lower than my Saiga 12. I don't really think the magnum loads would thump that hard, but haven't tried them. I'll be buying one some time this year.
