    new mossberg guy here

    Hey guys,

First time gun owner here in the lovely gun-hating state of California. I ordered a Mossberg 500 model 50273 from budsgunshop.com (i know they have a bad rep but it was a good price) this weekend. I got the 500 with the Mariner finish because I really liked the look of the gun and it is a more rugged finish. I had the gun shipped to Addax Tactical based on their rep here even though I've never been.

I mainly got the gun for messing around at the gun range but I am also putting together a bug out bag and I felt a shotgun would be the best choice in the zombie apocalypse or when Cobra Commander takes over.

I noticed a lot of shotguns these days come with lots of tacticool junk I was wondering what is the best sight to go with. I was thinking of just keeping the standard shotgun bead but I wanted to hear what everyone thinks. I also want to put on a reduced recoil stock and a limbsaver pad. Does anyone besides Blackhawk make a standard looking stock that reduces recoil? I'm not interested in an AR-15 adjustable style stock for a shotgun. I don't see how it serves a purpose in most situations.

Rather than spend the money on accessories, spend the money on a good quality training class. There are many good ones out there. After taking a class or two, you will have a better idea of what you do and don't want to own for the shotgun.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

Oh and I'd like to give Skeet shooting a try bgl333. What choke should I get? I'll be signing up sometime next month once I have a clear idea of my schedule.

Lots of online reports of that stock having some serious cheek slap...anyone experience this?

If you don't understand how the stock works, yes, it can happen. If you use it as it was intended to be used, it works great. The challenge is relearning how to mount the shotgun, which can be a hard habit to break.

                          ^^^ This ^^^

I've never been able to get the hang of shooting a Knoxx / Blackhawk, so I stick to what I know.... Speedfeed or Hogue for aftermarket stocks on working shotguns for me.

                            Nice shotgun!
I picked up my first shotty earlier this year. Mossberg 500, came with 2 barrels for just over 3 bills out the door.

Training is a bonus. I need to myself. there is a good trainer somewhat local and has a class for shotgun HD. I'll be signing up this summer after semester ends and my schedule (hopefully) eases up.

if you want to try skeet, clays, etc. i'd look into a new barrel. a 18.5" barrel "could" be used but i've only heard it being done by people that have experience. I wouldn't try it until I get better hitting the target

chokes: i'll leave that to someone that knows what there talking about my 28" ribbed barrel is fixed. I'll have to pull it outta the safe to check but I "think" its IM
there are lots of websites around to explain chokes.

The standard big 5 combo is marked MOD. Works fine for wingshooting, trap and sporting clays at first. Skeet not so much but try the games before you sink lots of money.

Oh and mossbergs totally suck, I only have 4 of them.
