870 sling suggestions

So I bought an 870 Express Tac today. Now the anxiety and anticipation begin. I want to keep it as simple and practical as possible. I want to get the Mesa 6 round shell holder and a sling for it. But I don't know which one. Can anyone give me some ideas of good brands of slings to look for? Thanks. I'll post pics when it's complete.

Most people go for two point slings with shotguns. I have a VTAC/5.11 padded sling and it's fantastic. You can do a one point sling, but sometimes those can be a little unstable. If you want the option of both types of slings, you could go for a Magpul MS2/MS3 sling, and be able to switch back and forth.

With all of that said, any basic two point sing will still work great for carrying it over your shoulder.

Stick with a 2 point. Doubt you will be using braced position shooting with it, so something short should be fine with it.

Shotguns require so much more manipulation than a rifle, I always found a two or three point sling gets in the way.

I like a slick leather belt so there is no friction to drag on my clothes, but I sling my gun crosswise if that makes sense. I just get a x-large belt and sew it myself but you can have a shoe repair shop do it and its still cheaper.

I'd rather take a hit or two in the nuts than get hung up for 1 second during a reload or 00/slug changeover.

When I get hit in the nuts it takes me more than a sec or two for recovery. Idk about you. Ha

I personally find slings on my shotguns get in the way. A good single point is great at allowing you you change your shoulder but you have to be able to get a sling loop to really allow you to do so. That is the hard part I find. And the family jewels will hate you for transitioning. If this is for HD, chances are you won't be putting on a holster so the whole point of having a sling is kinda moot. Keep your HD shotgun simple. Side saddle, extension tube and flashlight. You don't need things dangling and getting in the way or limiting your stance.

This gives you the option (if you buy the front and rear combo) of alternating between a single or double point sling depending on need. And this is a very basic, inexpensive sling that you can use with it.

FWIW I use a simple Blackhawk strap sling on a GG&G vertical plate up front and a GG&G slotted end plate at the rear. Simple and effective. I find I need nothing more than that.

if you do transitions, unless its an SBS that just doesnt work very well.


And I guess I just have sensitive nuts. A good smack will put me out for more then a second.

I put a nail 1" into the side of my foot a while back moving over some smashed fencing while I had someone at gunpoint. Didn't think about it until we had cuffs on him....then I realized it F'n HURT!

It may be that I am a lefty and always have to reach over/under to reach the side saddle that I have more movement than you righty peeps.....or that I am just super uncoordinated! Any sling just seems to get in the way. I would prefer to not use one, but that's not possible for my application. I need to be able to transition to my sidearm.

With a single point, I use my support hand to lower the shotgun and pull I around my right hip. It basically tucks behind my radio. I can simultaneously draw my sidearm unencumbered. I can go back and forth between the two very easily.

ALWAYS have a sling, whether 2 point or 1 point... tactical or rope, doesn't matter...
