CZ makes an over/under in your price range. That's what I would spend my $800 on.

For $800? Not much in the new category. Some of the Turkish guns in that price range are decent. Spend a few hundred more, get a new Franchi or used Browning. Spend a few hundred more get a nice Beretta Onyx or Browning Lightning.

I'd go to the consignment shops, look for a nice used Browning or Beretta.

A few years ago, I was looking for the same; with an even smaller budget.

For under a grand new; you're looking at the Mossberg (Turkish I think) , some other Turkish and some Russian models. All sold under various names; Stoeger, Baikal, Mossberg and some others I don't remember.

It's not till above a grand you get to anything else; first the Rugers and then everything else.

I ended up going with a Baikal 20 ga - these are now sold as Remington Spartans or SPR.

I'd think it would depend upon the reality of your budget and amount of intended use. A lot of looking in the used market might be the best value.

The Mossberg Silver Reserve O/U is around $500 - $600 and has worked very well for me after 1.5K rounds. It is a sturdy gun.

          just my .02 cents
