    Who makes a nice over/under??

I'm in the market for a new shotgun. I want to treat myself to something nice, but I don't know what I'm looking for or who makes a good looking gun.

I love my Mossy 500, and really like the looks of the Mossberg Silver Reserves. I'm looking to spend under $800. I'll be doing mostly trap SHOOTING with it, and of course upland game HUNTING...

    Thankz for your input guys..

Browning or Beretta would be my choice. They both make real nice guns for under 3K. Browning has a better warranty.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I'm about to buy a bt-99 single shot for trap. Used ones can be found for under a $1000, new ones can be found for $1200-$1400. These can'r really be used for anything but trap, though.

I have used my cheap imported semi and my 870 pump for backup on the birds, but if I had enough money, I'd by a 28 ga SxS double

Check out the consignment racks. My buddy bought a BL-3 beretta for $400, as soon as I have the cash I'm buying it from him, I love how it shoots.

You could look at Huglu, I've got a couple. Not the highest quality but very nice looking.

These two are really the only way to go without going to full house custom guns. There's an old saying that goes, "Nothing swings like an Italian shotgun". It's totally true.

One I didn't see mentioned is the Ruger Red Label.. I haven't been keeping up on price lately, but the last time I saw one, it was pretty sweet. They were making a stainless synthetic stock model at one point, though it felt a little muzzle heavy since the stocks were in my opinion, a little light and the balance was kind of goofy. I've shot others with wood stocks and they were very nice.

Otherwise I'd say Browning or Beretta.

I'm partial to the Gold semi-auto myself.. but I've used occasional Citoris..

                    O/U

I've got the Mossburg. And I've got Brownings. I'd take a used Browning in decent condition (which you should find for $800) over a new Mossburg any day. The fit, finish, and performance of the Browning are vastly superior. I particularly don't like the Mossburg wood. At least on mine, it's really soft. The Mossburg is the gun that I lend to friends when we go sporting clays shooting. Two have bought shotguns of their own. They were both Brownings (if that says something).

My experience with O/U's is buy nice or buy twice. I had two less expensive over/unders. Both had problems. The heat treat on one, the firing pins on the other.

If you aren't going to shoot much, you can probably get by with less expensive. Once your shot count starts climbing into the 1,000's less expensive guns start to break.

If you need to watch your budget stay with a pump (hard to kill an 870 or a 500 for that matter). If you want to shoot an O/U double your budget and watch. Rugers and Brownings can both be found under$1500, closer to $1000 if you are patient.

The Beretta's are a little step up in price but not too bad. Consider how long you expect to have it and how much you expect to shoot it. The pain of payment is either in the front end or the back end.

If all I had was $800.00 to spend on an O/U for trap shooting, I'd put a monte carlo butt stock and high rib barrel on my 870, and spend the rest on ammo and range fees.

You have been given good advice so far. I would especially agree with those who said "buy nice or buy twice." I think both the Ruger Red Label and Beretta(whichever fits/feels the best to you) would be good choices.

+1 on buy nice or buy twice. I've had cheap doubles before, and I hated them. I have a beretta white onyx now, and I love it. I shoot MUCH better with it than I do with any other shotgun, and when my friends try it, they shoot better too.

The onyx is their lowest-priced o/u and typically retails for $1800 new. Used ones can be had for much less, if you are willing to hunt for deals. The only thing you get with the higher-end guns is more engraving. The action and balance are the same.

Brownings are ok, too, but nowhere near as easy to shoot well as a beretta.
