    Mossberg 500 drop shell issue

my Mossberg 500 is the combo from big 5, while i was shooting clays, after i shot the shell in the chamber and pumped, the shell in the tube dropped to the ground. it happened to me several times, it caused me unable to shoot the 2nd clay..... but my friends with my Mossberg didn't get this issue, anything i did wrong? thanks for help

Its a problem that is not uncommon. On a magazine feed shotgun, you have two bars on either side of the mag tube. The bars have fingers on them which allow one shell to enter the carrier and the other one has to stop the other shells in the tube from moving forward. The mossberg keeps the shell carrier in the up position when the bolt is closed, it comes down when the bolt goes to the rear. I think you need to adjust those fingers on the shell release bar since it lets the shell go before the shell lifter is in the down position. You just drop one shell right? not the entire mag?

I've had that happen on my 20ga 870 Express some years ago. I never shot the gun enough to try to work it out. Mine only happens when I try to pump too fast for a double. When I slow down my pump it would feed good. I sold it thru an auction before I had a chance to mess with it.

Recommend a strip and clean, your elevator might be sticky, or as someone mentioned, there are two shell controlling strips that are inset to the receiver but articulate some, You need to completely dissassemble all that stuff, it's not too hard once you've done it once or twice, and hit it wish some CLP wipe it down, a few drops of oil, and smack it together.

Not saying it will fix the problem, but it is definitly the first step. All kinds of junk can get stuck into a receiver and make it do things it should not.

In general practice a shell should not fall out unless the gun is almost upside down and tilted to the side. The elevator rails should be freely moving in their slots and controlled by the position of the pump.
