Picking up a mossberg 930SPX

I'm having a real issue here, I'm on the fence about waiting for the new 930 JM version with all the bells and whistles or the 930 spx with the ghost rings and 18.5 in barrel. I really doubt I'm going to spend much time at 3 gun, just for fun or course and practice. Plus I have been wanted a 930 for about 6 months and don't know if I can wait another few months....

I think the most logical answer is to get a 930 spx today and try it out until the JM version comes out, just don't want to waste money. I guess I could always sell the SPX if I really wanted the JM..... hmmmm.

The spx would be better for clearing a house, shtf situation but the JM would be a better running gun at the range etc...... decisions decisions

I have had my 930 since they first came out back in 04 or 05. I went with the breach barrel because I really felt that feature may come in handy. (yea right I thought it looked cool and it was available:-)

I had zero issues with mine in its original configuration and after many modifications still have no problems. You can't really go off of one or even twenty bad reviews when there have been hundreds of thousands of units sold. There are going to be bad apples no matter what the firearm or product.

Here is my 930 as it stands now. My first addition was the barrel extension I got directly from choat. The choat spring didn't work but the factory spring works fine. Then I got the pistol grip stock when that came out and with the right shim it works very well. After that I put an eotec on their along with the extended bolt (this is a must have and I am so glad they came out with them) and the side saddle.

The cheek weld was a bit off with the eotec so I replaced the eotec with a Burris fast fire and now it is just right. I have run thousands of rounds thru this gun and have never had problems except for with the choat spring.

If it were me I would weigh the pros and cons of the spx versus the JM and get the one that fits my needs best. The spx is available now and is great for home defense and fun as hell at the range while the JM isn't out yet and is better for three gun. So get the SPX! And no I am not biased!

ya gotta decide if you will be happiest with ghost rings or a Fiber optic bead. the tweaks to the JM are just that tweaks. The cool thing is you can always buy barrels, stocks, sights etc. and have both set ups. Or just be big and get the flanigan model

Went by the shop yesterday to pick out the gun and they haven't inventoried the new shipment so they are not available for sale yet, check back tomorrow, errrr. I'm like a kid waiting for christmas.

Madmax your gun looks great!!! love the breaching attachment, although probably never need it but it does look bad arse!!!!

Went to the store and put the cash down on the SPX!!!!

1. Checked the front sight, looked good.
2. Checked the feed plate, for any binding, smooth.
3. Rear sight looks straight
4. Magazine tube looked straight
5. play at trigger was there, slight wobble, pulled the bolt back and still had a little wobble. Is that ok?
6. Finish looked ok
7. Had a sling mount. +
8. Didn't take apart to look at the spring but I assumed it was good. Will check as soon as I get the gun home to clean and inspect.

Bought it from parallax tactical for $589, so I guess that's a good price? Fun shows wanted $699 or more. Turners sale price was $599. I think I did ok.

That is a good price and there is always play in the trigger group. You did great now wait your ten and then shoot the crap out of it.

Check out my review on Mossbergowners.com and I have the latest generation. One thing, Mossberg does stand behind their product; they just have QC issues.

Thanks SoCal Choppas, your thread was listed above and I went through in detail to find out what to look out for, seems like you got a bad gun. I checked most of the things you listed without breaking the gun down, once I get the gun I'll inspect and measure the spring etc. Sorry you had so many issues. hopefully they have fixed the QC and have no problems now but I'm not crossing my fingers, just need to inspect the gun before shooting.

When you get your SPX. Make sure the barrel slides on and off easily off the Mag tube, if it doesn't make some adjustments to the Gas Piston spring; using a socket if possible. Run Mag tube wet under the Gas Piston area, until you feel the shotgun has broken in. Good Luck with your SPX.

Ok, finally picked up the 930spx today from Parralax, super fast transaction and they gave me a discount .

First thing I took the thing completly apart and cleaned and lubed the gun with frog lube on the sliding parts and break free CLP for oil.

1. Spring was very long, I think that is a good thing right?
2. Mag tube looked straight.
3. Barrel came on and off without issue, put plenty of frog lube on the magazine tube slide.
4. made sure the rail screws were tight, they were really tight because I couldn't get them loos to put loctite on.
5. Cleaned all the red gunk off the internals and lubed with frog luge.
6. looked like the newer gas tube because it had two rings.

Can't wait to go to the range.
