    Best autoloader for general hunting

Looking to get a autoloader shotgun, want to get one gun that will suit my needs. This will not be used for HD, already have a mos 500.

Want to use it to hunt dove and quail, maybe turkey or coyote and some clay shooting in the desert.

Looking for opinions on modern autoloaders, have owned a rem 1100 in the past and loved it but may lean towards a mossy 930 to keep the safety the same as my HD weapon. Any opinions on the 930 platform?

Looking to keep a budget around 600 and need all the chokes. Thanks, Mike

For hunting I would still recommand an 1100. Our students have several 930s in our skeet clinics and they tell me the gun needs to be keep fairly clean to run reliably. I personally have competed with an 1100 for several seasons and I've run into the thousands before cleaning mine.

For a dirt cheap and very reliable auto loader, you can find old Rem 11-48s in the $200-$250 range. If you want to make them more versatile, you can get them threaded for screw in chokes. I have 3 of them that I use for loaners and field guns so that my 391 doesn't end up with battle scars.

Benelli is the best auto loader.... (imo) You may find M2's in that range used I think... Great shotguns!

          ><

The best is the one you like and can hit with..........its that simple

Will it matter to you where the safty is located or how fast it can cycle 3 shots if you can't hit a darn thing with it?

You can get the Beretta 3901 (WalMart Beretta) for just about that. Best deal for a new auto IMHO. Used you can get any of the 390 and 391 in your price range.

You might be able to find a use Benelli Montefeltro in your price range. A good choice as well. I have a 20g I like very much.

I've never really been an 1100 fan as I found them heavy, chunky and needing more service. Lots of satisfied customers though.

Shotguns are very personal items. Fit/feel is individual.

3901 is the route I would take. I love the Beretta Autoloaders.

Pick up and shoulder a Browning A-5. If you are like me, you will have discovered shotgun perfection.

+1 for the browning, if you're looking for a budget auto , also look at the stoeger 2000.

Thanks guys for all the great advice, keep it coming. Only auto 12g auto I have ever owned was a rem 1100 that I saved up and bought when I was 15, it was 186.00 then. I kick myself in the *** every time I think about it, I sold it when I was 21 because I needed the money (dumb!).

I am going to go put my hands on the beretta, benelli, moss, remington etc and see how they feel. Dont really have the budget for a 1500.00 gun right now, but dont want a POS either.

I own 1100's so I have a bias to them. The 11-87 is also solid. As suggested above a used 11-48 can take you a long way, but they have their quirks.

No experience on the Winchester 1400, but those I know who own them are devoted.

Any of the Beretta semi-autos will serve very well, and the 3901 can be had on a budget. The newer Brownings are very nice, but those can get pretty spendy. Auto-5's are glorious guns. Being a blowback they'll knock you around pretty good with heavier loads and a long day of shooting, but they are truly a dream to shoot.

At the end of the day, you're right on the money to go shoulder (if not shoot) as many as you can. And keep your eyes on the for sale forum here. My latest 1100 came to me from a Calgunner and it makes me look really good.

FWIW, the Beretta and Benelli are the autos you'll find in South America at the dove shoots that involve 1000+ rounds per day. Usually 20g though. The Benelli will have a bit more bite when shooting stout loads

That's like asking us, which car to buy, or which girl to marry. Test drive, test drive, test drive.

                              This weekend I shot with a group of guys, 1 Browning 525, 1 Perazzi MX2000, 1 Krieghoff K80, 1 Beretta 391.
