Yeah I'm thinking the price was what he meant as well. Hi points are cheap and reliable. So are the 500s. I got both my 12 gauge 500s as dual kits from Big 5

It depends upon the day. Some days the shotgun forum is all 500/590, others it seems to be all 870. You can't really go wrong with either.

this. I have 2 moss 500s and my cousin has an 870. none have had any problems whatsoever... I am in the process of not cleaning my field 500 to see if I can get it to malfunction. so far my record is 1100 dirty bulk birdshot, No problems and the only reason I cleaned it was because I knew I wouldn't use it for more than 2 months

Very few shotguns have seen as many rounds through them as my Mossberg 500. Twenty five years of hunting and league trap shooting have more than proven this gun a durable design. Even though mine is not what most of the guys on CalGuns would want due to it's wood stocks and longer barrel(s), it's the same basic gun sold today. It's a winner.
Oh, and I have a 1976 Rem. 870 Wingmaster to compare with. It's nice too. But my dads 870 Express is a POS.
