Over under questions

so ive been shooting clays for about a year now and plan on getting a over under. im not really partial to nice wood or engravings. although i dont want it to fall apart. so my questions are

is there an AK/glock/870 version of an over under? not super expensive but something reliable.

where is the best place to buy one in terms of price in the bay area (used or new)? ive been to coyote valley and they seem to have the most so far, but seeing my options.

how often do you have to bring in an o/u to a gunsmith? ive read on a few forums annually.

personally i want a sporting clays o/u 30'' because it fits me the best. my range would be probably be under 2k. thanks all.

With that budget, a Browning 325, 425 or 525 is within reach, especially if you are considering a used gun. I've had them all, but I've still got the 325 (it's my favorite). I'm partial to Perazzi, but that would be a little more expensive. Not too many competition guns are available in northern Cal. If you're interested in a higher end gun, I can give you the name of a local distributor.

I used to take my gun to a smith once a year for maintenance, when I was shooting a lot more. If something in the triggers broke, I just sent that in and used a spare, if I couldn't fix it myself.

I've got a Browning 525 that has at least 12,000 to 15,000 rounds thru it, it's never been to a gunsmith. No need to, it still works fine.

Although I do take the stock off once a year and clean out the guts with brake cleaner and Rem Oil.

Browning Citori & Ruger Red Label and Franchi Renaissance Elite are all great entry level O/U shotguns for field, skeet and sporting clays.

As many others will say; the one fits best is the gun you want. Brownings never felt good to me in terms of swing and pointing. Great guns, just not great for me.

I love the Berettas. Feel, swing, pointing. Like it's part of me. Find one that feels like that.

O/U

You can get into a used Perazzi for the same price as a new Browning or Beretta. The Perazzi has better balance and pointability. Not to mention it will last a lifetime.

Get an MX8 with the barrel configuration you want and later add barrels and or tubes for multiple gauges.

Also if your partial to German firearms, a Krieghoff K80 will also serve you well. The only difference is the Perazzi is more customizable. Barrels, stocks and forearms are available in many difference style and custom fit dimensions.

BTW, these are not in the AK/870 class, but rest assured you will never need to purchase another sporting clays/skeet/trap shotgun.

Not from what I've seen. Used MX8's are in the $8000 range, new B guns are in the $2500 range.

Nope... Used MX8 are in the Mid $4K to $5K range. I paid $4700 for the one in the pic. A new Beretta or 525/625 are $3500+. Add tubes and you're in over $5K

yeah perazzi are out of my price range right now. want to keep it under 2k but thats a great looking gun.

i would like to try and shoot a beretta before i purchase one but cant find a place that rents it and not sure if people at my range would let me try theirs out.

which brand has the best warranty or customer service? if i buy used will the warranty be nullified?

Quite honestly I've seen more problems with Perrazzi in skeet tournaments then Brownings or Berettas. I would definately spend my sub $2K budget on a Browning Citori or Beretta 68X Sporting O/U. If you ever wanna spend beyond that you can also look into Kolar as an alternative to Perezzi or Kreighoff.

I wouldn't shop for a gun based on the warranty. I've owned a few Brownings and never needed the warranty.

Buying a gun is like buying a suit or a pair of shoes. You have to get the one that fits you correctly.

As far a shooting a Beretta, where do you live?
