Why you don't use birdshot for HD

This kid is tough and very lucky.

Look at 3:37 you can see how many pellets he got hit with. He took 3 shots of birdshot, I don't know the gauge, but probably a 12g since that is the most common. One shot blew his arm off, another hit him point blank in the chest and the 3rd grazed his skull. He lives today. If it as OO buck I would say the shot to the chest would have been an instant kill.

It's a fascinating story (second time I've seen it here), but unfortunately the kid's potty-mouth makes it NSFW.

and i'm sure if i hit someone in the chest (easier target) with ONE round of 00 buck it will be as effective and it's not going to hurt anyone else. Why does everyone think that 00 will go through a BG and kill their neighbors??? If you can hit someone's head with birdshot, you can hit their chest with buckshot. To each their own though i guess....

This kid was lucky for sure. I've been to the "OK part" of Detroit and it scared the living sh*t out of me. Absolutely the worst place I've ever been and I would not go back ever. Can't even imaging what the "bad part" of Detroit is like....

Isn't birdshot designed to down birds (you know, those lightweight, extremely fragile flying creatures) while not tearing them up too badly? I would think that against a heavy-boned, land based creature like a human being, it would be decidedly less effective.

I suppose those wooden training rounds the Germans used in WW2 can be lethal, but given the choice I wouldn't want to carry them into battle when FMJ cartridges were available.
