    QUESTION ABOUT SHOTGUN SET UP

I want to get another 870 Remington and put a Hogue pistol grip (You guys have any opinions on this one) and a forend pistol grip for home defense and trunk carry which is legal, but in this configuration I think it violates the 30-inch rule or are shotguns exempt from that? I've seen them for sale in some places in that configuration, but when I asked the person at the place they were unfamiliar with the law (Way to run a gun shop) Please fill me in in guys! Thanks for all your help.

AFAIK, the minimum OAL for a shotgun is 26".

        (c) (1) As used in this section, a "short-barreled shotgun" means
        any of the following:
        (A) A firearm which is designed or redesigned to fire a fixed
shotgun shell and having a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches
        in length.
        (B) A firearm which has an overall length of less than 26 inches
and which is designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell.
        (C) Any weapon made from a shotgun (whether by alteration,
modification, or otherwise) if that weapon, as modified, has an
overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less
        than 18 inches in length.

Correct, The only mention of a 30" rule concerns semi-automatic, centerfire rifles. Since the OP is talking about a pump shotgun it doesn't apply.

12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following: (1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
          (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
          (B) A thumbhole stock.
          (C) A folding or telescoping stock.
          (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
          (E) A flash suppressor.
          (F) A forward pistol grip.
          (2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
          (3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.

I think that front pistol gripp and any other goodies are OK, since an 870 pump action as long as your magzine holds up to 10 rounds. ( My Un-professional Opinion - I just a regular SCHMUCK that can't afford an ATTORNEY)

            TRUNK carry ?????

Not sure about that. (MY Personal Opinion) You should carry some targets and put the shells in a separite locked box. Do not carry gun loaded. This might help your attorney. Also knowledge of local indoor ranges in area my help. Say to officer (if he/she has not already shot you) I was on the way to the shooting range. Whopps forgot - it might be 3am and your parked outside a bar in LB CA - well - say you didn't remember to take it out of the car ( face might be pushed into assfault street, so scream this out ). Better yet - keep favorite tooth brush and thooth paste in shirt pocket, because they won't let back into your car as they impound it. Might have your lawyers phone # tat too-ed to your rear, so your cell mate can read it to you. Sorry for the humor, but I think most peace officers attitudes change when they find a gun and no real good reason for it to be in your vehicle.

I have a PUMP Romy AKM and know I can put on all the goodies as long as I don't go over 10 rounds. But I fear that, if pulled over (really on the way to range), the police may not know - not care and let the judge figure it out.

there is no good intentioned way to carry a shotgun in a car unless you are on your way to the shooting range what you should do is get a CCW and justify why you need to carry a gun the legal way

THERE IS NOTHING ILLEGAL ABOUT CARRYING AN UNLOADED SHOTGUN (OUT OF SIGHT) IN YOUR VEHICLE.

It doesn't matter where you're going, as long as it's not next to a school.

Thats good. {In my personal opinion} I would suggest thinking about not going to any college campus or any form of educational facility, US post office, Camp Pendelton or March Air Force with your gun either. The FBI building in Los Angeles on whilshire blvd it is OK! in the open parking lot - don't use the parking structure {In my personal opinion}.

?Question? Is your gun disasembled (barrell off gun) with a safety lock in the action (so you can't asemble it quickly) all in a locked a box. Is the ammunition in a separite locked box - not with in arms reach of the locked box with the gun.

According to State Law (and the BOF, who seem to ignore state law when it doesn't suit them), as long as it isn't loaded, it's fine. Loaded has been interpreted by courts to mean no shell in the chamber or magazine. I believe it is even legal to have them attached to the gun (i.e. sidesaddle) w/o any problems.

There is no legal requirement to lock or disassemble a long gun for transport.

My buddies in the Marines aways bring their firearms on Pendleton? I never asked if it's illegal since they're MP's and there is sport shop next to the PX that sells guns. But I know every other base like Naval Station 32nd they don't bring them.

Actually this week, I'm going to ask the head MP's of 32nd if a fully disassembled firearm is still considered a weapon to them.

Unless you're bringing a rifle or pistol on board MCB Camp Pendleton for an approved competition (Santa Margarita Gun Club) it MUST be registered with the appropriate authority (MP's ?) to bring it on board, and whether registered with the base or not, it MUST be locked in a case (rifles too) and the ammo, if any, must be locked in a separate case. AFAIK this applies both to civilians (like me) as well as active duty and retired Marines. These are the base rules as they have been explained to me. If in doubt, check with the base MP's in advance, but DO NOT just wing it and hope for the best. It may turn out to be a VERY bad day for you if you do.

I would not ask the head MP. This could lead to several hours painfull headshrinking and silly questions.

I would not say anything about your bubbies. I am not and have not been in the military, but my friend who was a Captain at Camp Pendleton would be very disapointed about the meetings and paper work that would probably result. Who knew what when and how long between when they knew and when they did something or not and why?????? This exercise goes on untill he gets angry and then more tramma.

PLEASE DON'T ASK - DON'T TELL - DON'T SMELL as you sit in the BRIGG!

I would quietlty and casually ask you buddies in a relaxed area. Look at pollicy or orders that have been issued, but don't ask directly.
