Finally Converted the Saiga 12

nice, how does the brake do in reducing muzzle rise? From what I have read the only ones that seem to help usually cost $150+. I was interested in this one just based on looks. Btw, Im liking those HK sights, would love to do that to mine.

I didn't see anything on the market I liked, plus I wanted mine to be different. I made the brake out of 4140 chromoly. It works too.

I went with the NATO length...If I had to do it again, I would have went with the WASR length. Not a big deal, but I was considering mounting a cushion of some sort, but the LOP would be too long for me.

Just change the stock then, you don't even need a stock to be legal with a Saiga 12. They're already over the 26" limit with the barrel and receiver.

I probably will change the stock out to the WASR length or maybe even try a skeleton style stock.

Again, not really my shotgun style but a nice and very clean conversion.

Thanks! It did take about 5 hrs, but I was drinking the entire time and taking my time with the issues to understand what the problem was to get a better understanding on how this platform works. Keep in mind this was my first time working on the internals of an AK. If I had to do another conversion I could get it done in under 2 hrs with painting. It is simple once you get a basic understanding of how the parts work together.

No pictures of the process as there are a ton of threads out there on the topic. If anyone wants help with one of these in San Diego, I would be happy to assist.

Ugh I'm dying for one, I just hate how much stuff it takes to bring it up to compliant with the goodies like pistol grip and stuff.

Thanks! It really is simple to follow 922r. Just buy a conversion kit from CSS, and you will be compliant. The kits run around 125-250 depending on stock and grip choice. In the end, I was very happy to do my own and would have fun doing another 10 conversions! Don't be intimidated at all, pretty much anyone should be able to do this basic work.

Yea I bought a Saiga with the same intention, of bringing it up to par so I could have all the goodies on it and never got around to it. I definitively would be more likely to sink the time and money into a Saiga shotgun though. None are up here in norcal though.

Sportsman arms in petaluma usually has a few ninjad' out to the max.

I did my Saiga AK in about 2 hours, that included drilling, tapping, and fabricating a bullet guide.

I wasnt really taking my time, was pretty dead set on finishing it.

Very simple to do. I had zero experience besides watching some videos on it.

I felt the same way, but paying someone else to do this is pretty much throughing away money IMO. I was intimidated at first, but you quickly find out that this is simple work. Offer still stands for anyone in SD who wants to do one of these, im no expert but know enough to help.
