You'd have to have a Smith thread it. Also there are NO barrel options for the 590 series. If you want chokes, get a 500

Yeah you would gave to get a smith to thread the end of the barrel for you. Either that or you could vang comp it.

I would think smithing a 590A1 would lower the resale value, unless you did it through a major player like vang comp.

yeah, the 590A1 isn't really designed to be choked... not the purpose of the gun.

if you have the option to get like a 500 or something, that is the way to go, imho. can't ever have enough guns anyhow, right?

for the price of gunsmithing & the loss of resale value on the 590A1 ( which is an awesome shotgun), your better off getting a field maverick 88 for less than 200 bucks.

If you have a 590a1 18" barrel, you can use barrels from a Mossberg 835 utilimag. Either the 28" barrel with chokes, or 24" slug barrels.

The barrel should be 20 in. also because it had to meet some milspec, I dont think the barrel is removable like the 500 series.

Of course the barrel is removable -- what do you mean?

I replaced the 20" barrel on one of my 590s with a 24" barrel so I could go do sporting clays at a place that requires 22".

yeah your right it just has the heavy barrel.

but is there a 24-28 barrel that takes the 8 round mag tube of the 590A1? If so, then that is all he would have do then.

Ok, thanks – I have several shotguns 500A is one of them, I do not need to choke the 590A1 I just bought it. I guy at our range shoots skeet so I thought if I could just stick a $ 30.00 dollar choke in it, and remove it when I got home, I could do skeet with it better, I have shot those skeet with my 18” 500 so I know I can do it with my 20” 590A1 – I need to go get 9 pumpkins, 9 shells of 9 shot pellets in the tube.
                        That’s my 999 plan
                        Thanks for the replies.

The 835 barrels will only work on the 18" 590 shotguns because the lug/ring is in the same spot. The 20" 590 has a lug/ring at the end and another one where the bayonet lug is.

There is no "factory" replacement long/choked barrels for the 590(a1), but a Mossberg 835 utilimag barrel will fit the 590a1 18" models.

It's about $170-$185 for a 28" utilimag barrel. It's not a factory option, so use at your own risk.

Where did you find the barrel. I know Mossberg doesn't sell that option.

And the user manual says that barrels between different models are not compatable although apparently some have used 835 barrels with the shorter 18" mossy 590-A1's.

I see no option at all to replace a 20" 590-A1 barrel but would be interested to find one.
