BTW Big 5 may have annoying policies and a bunch of goobers behind the gun counter but you gotta cut em some slack when it's a store policy.
    No we don't.

LEGALLY they could keep it for 29 days...........how would that work for you?

Maybe we should make it a sticky with the wait times and policies of a few of the stores.
Which would be a good use of our time,....right?

      BOOM!

Wow, lots of interest in this thread, many excited 'get over it' responses. Kind of interesting..

Anyway, no big deal, just an extra day, right? It's just that 10 days would've worked out for an outing, 11 days means going out has to wait a few weeks. Was just looking for calgunners' experience trying to get it out jail on time, that's all.

Yup, it's their policy. If you don't like it, quit you're whining, go somewhere else, and I forgot some of the other responses. wow

With my luck, my tenth day always lands on a day when the shop is closed anyway.

Piss poor planning on YOUR part is no reason to try to blame Big5's long standing policy. Hell, they've had this policy in place for over 2 decades now. I think that should have given you enough warning about their policy. So, the really question is: Why did YOU not plan better?

I can't believe that anyone is actually buying rifles from Big 5. Any local gun shop should be more than happy to meet or beat their sale prices - for sure Ammo Bros does in Cerritos - and usually by a huge margin.

I thought the 10 day wait was a cooling off period, if you haven't cooled off in 10 and the policy has you this upset maybe the 11th will help. I did purchase a shotgun late one evening from a Turners and the DROS time was 1 minute after their closing time and on the 10th day they stayed open a few extra minutes to process my pick up, but it was only that I was in the area, stopped in and ask the assistant manager if I could save a trip back since I was leaving to go out of town in the am. Otherwise I would have made the trip on the 11th day or the 14th day after I came back. No biggy.

I own a retail store and I set policies based on past problems that have occurred and the fact that I have 8 employees and a store that is open 80 hours a week and we cannot be there all the time. Policies are adopted so all staff is on the same page as to how we operate. A chain store has even a bigger problem because they are sitting in a corporate office and must set policies that work across the board for every store regardless of whether you "the customer" are dealing with a long time employee, a manager, or the guy who started last week.

PS Thank you Dion. One thing I've learned in 25 years in retail is that the customer is usually right, but not always right. I hate it when a customer gets upset over a policy I made based on past problems and experience, and because they don't like it, they verbally abuse one of my staff. I have, more then once, ask a customer to shop somewhere else, where they might be more happy. I as a manager/owner have an obligation to my customers to see they are satified to the best of our ability, but I also have an obligation to my staff to see that we remain profitable and stay in business because we are feeding 9 families. Our policies work for 99.9% of our customers and allow us to be consistant. That .1% is welcome to go down the street. We have be around 25 yrs now, my policyless competitors all seem to last 3 to 6 years. What works, works. If it's not broke don't fix it. If you don't like the store policy, go somewhere else.

Minor correction. By law they have to make it available for pickup no later than the 15th day. You are correct that they can hold it for you for that long if you were so inclined to be lazy, but legally they cannot keep it from you that long.

Really? Could you point out that law? I have never seen it.

                          Any way around this?
                          mnh327,

It say on the receipt that the 10 day wait starts the day after purchase. No big deal with me as the 10 days goes fast.

the best thing about not agreeing with a store's policy is that you don't have to buy from them.
