High-visibility birdshot?

One thing that bugged me on the skeet field... couldn't see the shot in flight, makes it hard to tell how I was missing the clays (and I missed a lot of clays...)

Is there any brand of shot that shows up better in flight? There's one called "Black Cloud" that seems like it would work, but, as always, I figure I'd check with the experts before plunking down the cash...

There is no such shot that I know of (though somewhere there may be tracer type stuff).

As an instructor, I refrain from telling students where the shot went, yes there is a way to tell. I simlpy tell the student what to do to make it right. The reasoning is that there are dozens of things you can do wrong and one way to do it right.....focus on the right way and the target will break.

If I tell you you were under the target , the next shot will surely be above and you, the student, still will not know how to break that target.

There is logic in what you say, though. I'll definitely keep it in mind.

If you shoot in drizzle or light rain you can sometimes see the shot.

The best way to learn where the shot is going is to pattern your gun, and ALWAYS mount it the same.

To answer the question before it is asked, below is a copy of the California Penal that applies to tracer ammunition. Note that shotgun tracer ammunition is specifically allowed.

(a) The term "destructive device," as used in this chapter,
shall include any of the following weapons:

(1) Any projectile containing any explosive or incendiary material
or any other chemical substance, including, but not limited to, that
which is commonly known as tracer or incendiary ammunition, except
tracer ammunition manufactured for use in shotguns.

The shooter will not be able to see anything due to muzzle blast and having your eyes focused on the clay. An observer will.

Plus if your looking to see where the shot went, I gar-o-tee you will have missed due to taking your head off the stock to look.
