help chose my 3 gun set up

right now im trying decide between an m1 super 90 used with 24 in VR barrel for 673 out the door.
or a mossberg 930 spx used 550 out the door.
what would be the better option for three gun?
the mossberg will probably need a longer barrel the benelli possibly shorter mag extention anything else?

Those are good prices for a starting 3-gunner. Assuming that you're going to shoot Tactical class and not Open, you'll want either one to hold 8+1 at a minimum. Do they already come with that?

mossberg is 7+1 benelli is 5+1 so i guess either will have to be modified im leaning towards the benelli i know it a much better gun for not to much more

I'm traveling right now but may get back in time for Pala and Piru 3-gun. Visit the Competition forum for all the match announcements.

I would go for the benelli myself but I am bias. I run a M1 s90 and it is great. Simple action and easy to manipulate. Another great choice is a 1100 but the benelli favors weak hand reloading over the 1100. Not sure about the 930. I havent had the opportunity to fool around with one much. As far as barrel length, 21 inches is suppose to be ideal. I run with a 18.5 with an extended modified choke. 9 round tube so I can load one right after the buzzer so I have a total capacity of 10 when I reach my first target. This gives you less chance of running dry which really eats into your times for reloading.

do you have a picture of your benelli? the barrel on the one i might get is 24 maybe i can have it cut and rethreaded

650 is a good price. Shoot it first then see if you need it cut down. If you cut it down, the barrel will need to be rethreaded to use chokes which is fairly expensive and also thin walls the barrel.

I keep reading about these 3 gun competitions. Could someone give a short explanation of what they are?

                          Thanks

Google 3 Gun Videos. You use a pistol, shotgun and a rifle in various combinations to engage targets.

Competition shooting is the same as USPSA, except you may use all 3 guns on a stage. There are two basic scoring formats, USPSA and outlaw (2 hits anywhere on paper).

The Benelli M1 is the most used shotgun in 3 gun, you just need a longer magazine tube (Nordic Components). The 24" barrel will be fine. Shooting the shotgun is about loading and managing your ammo between birdshot and slugs.

                              Here are some resources.
