Side/stock saddle for 590A1?

As you guys know, I now have a Mossberg M590A1. (with ghost ring)
and saving for future upgrades...



So looking for some suggestions of following parts:

- a side saddle
- a stock saddle
- a night front sight work with ghost ring
(not priority since I am going to get a light)

my biggest concern is if the parts fit to my weapon, I don't plan to spend 30+ dollar and found out it doesn't work on mine...

I use to have a tackstar side saddle but I swapped to the velcro ones for all my non clay shotguns. I also added a velcro strip on my stock(standard straight stock) so I can put a 5 rounder there too.

mesa tactical has side saddles in 4-, 6- and 8-round models, as well as 4- and 6-round models that bolt into the sling slot on M4 SOPMOD buttstocks. my 590A1 has a tacstar on the side and a mesa on the buttstock -- the mesa model is more expensive but of higher quality, IMHO.

also, ATI makes a 5-shell holder that's meant to screw onto the side of that company's 6-position collapsible stocks. you might be able to get it to fit another buttstock, but i didn't feel like testing it.

meprolight makes a tritium front sight for mossberg 590s.

how well does that pistol grip work for you? i've seen photos of that model before, and the angle at which it's mounted looks terribly un-ergonomic.

The grip is fine to me, just little concern about reaching safety under stress.

Btw, do I need a gunsmith to install saddles?

i don't know, since i have no idea how comfortable you are doing this type of work. for me, these things are basic, but i'm a handyman and a hacker by nature -- mechanically inclined, meticulous, capable with hand tools and aware of my limitations.

for the side-mount model, you have to replace the trigger pin and the screw that holds in the ejector. if you're not familiar with those components, you should probably get some help. it isn't terribly complicated work; you might be able to get by by reading the instructions carefully or asking someone with a little more experience to explain in person. the choice is yours.

OTOH, if you can turn a wrench, you can install the buttstock saddle.

velcro over a hard mount side saddle for sure. $$cheaper, lighter, replaceable when empty.

get the part numbers you want, then find a retailer -- there are a few locals who stock their products; mesa has a list online. midway, brownells, new frontier and botach also carry mesa.

i think you're gonna be happy. i'm sure i'm starting to sound like a mesa fanboy here, but i have been very impressed with the fit and finish of every mesa product i've seen (besides the buttstock shell carrier, i also have their recoil-reducing stock kit installed).

i would have replaced my side-mount shell carrier by now, but the mossberg has been on the back burner behind some other projects.
