00 buck is kinda potent so don't beat yourself up. You can get a limbsaver pad for about 40 bucks and is well worth it. I noticed a big difference when I shoot trap or sporting clays for half day.

12 Gauge recoil..

I own an M4 and the first time I shot it I also got a sore shoulder from a low round count. 15 to 20 range. It was my first time shooting a shotgun.
The following week I went to a 4 day tactical shotgun course and learned were to place the stock in the pocket of my shoulder. I shot well over 600 rounds of bird, buck, and slug with no sore shoulder. It was pretty amazing.
When you are in the pocket, the top of the stock will be a couple of inches above your shoulder. If you see it on video, it looks a little weird, but that is how to do it and not hurt.
Also learning the proper lean, as mentioned earlier is also very important.WARNING: This post will most likely contain statements that are offensive to those who lack wit, humor, common sense, and or maturity.

Whenever someone complains abut 12 gauge recoil I think of this:

I think chrisf means 20 gauge, then 410. Though it's harder to hit stuff with a 410. I guess if I were really good at hitting clays I might like a 410. And 20 gauge is pretty neat to me. YmmvComment

I understood the rest of it, but which elbow?
I'm about to go out and blow 500 rounds thru a new gun just for grins and I haven't shot one for years.
I bought a lot of slugs and heavy field loads.
Also, to you limbsaver guys.
Does anybody know what kind I would need for a 590-a1 speedsaver stock.
I can't measure mine yet because I am in ten day jail but I'd like to be ready to roll if possible, and I hear the speedsaver stocks does not have a superior recoil pad.Comment

Not sure about the slip on model if you keep the original or not. I believe so because when I look at them both the slip on padding was thinner than the bolt on. I bought a bolt on that didn't quite fit so a little sanding of the stock was required to get it right. This would not be necessary with the slip on. As far as fitting to your gun the website has all the info on models.Comment

If a gas gun hurts, you'd better stay away from a double barrel, a pump or recoil action shotguns! Slip-ons increase the length of pull and that may create problems, too.
A 20 ga may be more enjoyable for you.
At least, try some other brands or styles; maybe one will fit better.
By the way, does your cheek feel kinda swollen too?Last edited by otteray; 10-21-2011, 10:42 PM.sigpic
