    Cut the barrel or not?

    I have a Winchester Model 12 12 gauge early 60's I think, I believe it has a 28" barrel.
Anyway I don't see myself hunting duck but I would like to have a HD shotgun. Do I cut the barrel down?

I would suggest selling the Model 12 and getting a HD gun. The Model 12s are of some collector interest and cutting an original example isn't recommanded.

Kind of thought that would be the response. Maybe I'll put it up for trade/sell. I like buying but hate selling.

The barrel alone is probably worth as much as a newer HD shotgun from Remington or Mossberg.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I cut the barrel down on a cheap remington 1100 barrel and I regret it.

Got a pick of your shotgun?

I'll take a pic and post this evening. Any thought on the Norinco 1917 trench gun replica?

Good choice to just sell it and get that Norinco. The Winchester 1897 replicas get lots of good feedback. Pretty much all the chinese replicas do.

The model 12 is a rather nice shotgun. They really do not build them like that anymore until you get into high dollar modern shotguns.

Given that a good specimen may actually be worth more than a typical $350 HD specific shotgun - I suggest either taking up a shotgun sport with it, or selling it but leave the barrel intact.

Look to Mossberg and Remington for an HD shotgun and keep the "nice" shotgun as is.

Thanks, all good advice maybe I'll keep it and get a hd shotgun too. I have shot some skeet with it and distance is no problem you can practically say pull with the butt sitting on the ground.
