You rack as hard as you can, never soft rack any pump.

Your eye is the rear sight on a shotgun.

If you are using slugs for hunting, sights are OK.

I understand both Mossy and Rem are both really reliable, but just in case, who has the better warranty? I heard Remy has a 2yr warranty, and Mossy has a 10yr warranty. Is this true?

What 5539 said. Don't be gentle with the gun when cycling rounds.

Either Mossberg 500A/590 or Remington 870
Both are FINE shotguns but I like the features of the 500 (tang safty, actions relase button, ect.) more so I went with that almost 2 years ago. Not one problem with my 500A, Very light weight, easy to manage.
Can modify both shotguns to your hearts content. Best of luck to you.

870 has a steel receiver. Look no further.

And that is very important because??? Are you an AK because of the AR's aluminum lowers?

Anyway, the Benelli is a fine gun. There is nothing wrong with it.

What these other guys are saying though is that if you want to customize it latter the Mossberg 500 line or the Remi 870 are going to give you more options.

It's a Ford vs. Chevy comparison. The Remi is about 30% more expensive then the Mossberg. I did a ton of research and could not figure out why. It does have slightly more people selling after market parts but it should be noted that there are not more different parts, just more of the same.

A lot of police departments use the Remi. The Army and the Marines use the Mossberg.

After I did my research I chose the Mossberg combo. For $350 dollars I got a basic black 12ga with a 18" security barrel and a 28" vent rib "hunting" barrel. Also I chose the 5 shot tube rather then the bigger 7 shot model as I liked the ergonomics and balance of the 5 shot better.

To this I have added a Blackhawk adjustable stock and pistol grip. A stock attached shell holder and a side saddle shell holder. Ghost ring sights, a tactical light and a laser combo. The laser was really just because I had an extra one lying around.

All in all I have just over $600 into it.
Combo $410 with tax and dros
                Stock+grip $60
                Stock shell holder $40
                Side Saddle $30
                Tac light $35
                Sights $45

Steel is safer in case something bad happens. OOB detonation or barrel obstruction and you will want a steel receiver.

I have no problem with my m4 or s12, it simply my opinion that an 870 is the best first shotgun that some one should buy.

I've had a 500 for about 8 years now with no issues at all. I have a side saddle, Knoxx Spec Ops stock and some XS sights that I have yet to put on. Plenty of after market parts out there and I just picked the Big5 combo today to add to my collection.
