Shotgun recommendations?

I currently own an AR, Sig Sauer, and a .22LR. Now I'm looking to buy a shotgun, just mainly for fun / experience at the range, and maybe HD.

Would the Benelli NOVA be a good choice?

Or maybe the Benelli Super NOVA?

My closest indoor range doesn't allow pistol grip shotguns, but the range I often frequent , Angeles, is fine with them.

My budget is around $500.

A Nova, or, the magnum version, Super Nova would be great if you aren't one for customizing with different grips, stocks, rails, etc. You can get a top rail with some small side rails for optics and lights, and side saddles, but other than that, your gun will be stock. If you do want all that stuff, Mossberg 500/590/590A1 and Remington 870/870P will all work (although 870P's might run a little higher than your budget).

Remington 870 is the White, Ford F150 of shotguns. Not a lot of frills but reliable as hell and gets the job done!

LC Smith 10 ga double -- nothing beats horsepower and the ability to double.

Otherwise I like my 870 it's never failed in decades of muddy, wet duck hunting.

My zombie gun is a Mossberg 590A1. Picked it up used for 250. When I got it there wasn't even a ring on the bolt face. I like it alot. Never had any problems. I've got a couple other shotguns, but they are for their respective purpose. Hunting, trap, etc. That being said the 870 is a great choice also. Both have tons of available parts to make it just the way you want it. Big 5 frequently runs ads for Mossy 500's with 2 barells, so you could use it for H.D. and then swap the barell to do a little hunting, or shoot at some clays. I want to say theit usually around 279 +/-.

you got to decide: pump VS semi & what gauge

I love my rem 1100 for semi & Mossberg 500 for pump. Mossberg is very easy to clean & take apart. So is the Rem 870 but the 500 is really simple.


both 870 & 500's come in different stocks & configurations. Ive seen new pistol griped 500s & 870s on rotational sales from Big5, Turners & Ammo Bros.

Remington 870 all the way. I own many shotguns priced from 400.00 to 4,000.00 but the Remington has always done me well. I have dropped it in the water more than once duck hunting, I just hose it out when I get home, blow air through it,soak it in WD-40. It's a wingmaster though.
