Anyone use this clamp?
Looking for a 3" Magnum 870 $200-$250ishTags: None -

Wow you've got a website any everything, that's really great!
What parameters was the clamp designed around in consideration to alternatives which are on the market?
Specifically the CDM BMT clamp.
What has this design done to negate the clamp sliding during recoil?
Would this be considered "Tactical"?
I require "tactical" components!

If it has a pic rail, it's "tactical"!
Mesa makes good stuff.
Two things you could consider to ensure the clamp doesn't creep - (1) use some skateboard type tape on the tube or barrel underneath, or (2) put bicycle inner tube underneath the clamp. I have a piece of inner tube under my clamp and it stays put pretty well.Comment

I don't quite understand why Mesa did a drive-by on your thread and didn't offer any useful/helpful information. Kinda weird.
I like my Mesa gear, but Nordic also makes a similar barrel clamp for $45 - it's good to have options. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=667570------------------------------------------------------------

Used it on my 870. Sturdy as hell and allows you to attach a short rail for lights and other stuff.Wise is the man, who in quiet times, keeps his knives sharp and close at hand.

I don't believe CDM was even in business when this clamp was designed (back in 2005 or so). The principle differences between the two, as far as I can tell, is CDM uses the same fasteners to secure the clamp as well as the rail, which is clever and clean. The Mesa Tactical clamps have two sets of fasteners because they were designed from the beginning to form the forward mount point for full length Picatinny rails (even though the long rails were introduced only in 2010).
Nothing. Sometimes it happens. The only set-up we have seen that effectively eliminates such creep is the Remington factory extension, which has a cannelure in the tube through which the bolt for the factory clamp slides, securing the clamp from any axial movement.
But any clamp designed for aftermarket extensions is probably going to be subject to creep.
For some reason, though, it doesn't appear to happen very much. We sell a lot of these clamps, more than we ever expected, and receive very few complaints.
It's part of our name.
The jury is out whether clamps to secure the magazine to the barrel are even necessary (our dear friend Hans Vang vehemently insists they are not). Our favorite use for these clamps is to secure a one inch diameter light directly to the barrel, like this:

No rail or rail mount required. And the clamp for Remington can be used on any shotgun in this manner (we have a Benelli M4 that has had a light mounted on it in this manner for years). Best of all, the shotgun can be field stripped without tools with this arrangement.
Note that because the clamp is tipped up so that it covers part of the top of the barrel, this set-up can only be used with shotguns with elevated front posts (as with ghost right sights), so the photo is slightly misleading as it can't be done with a bead sight gun.
We normally stay out of these discussions. A vendor explaining how wonderful his own products are is far less useful, we believe, than the opinions of other, more objective forum members.Last edited by Mesa Tactical; 08-30-2011, 7:31 AM.Lucy at www.mesatactical.comComment

Never even imagined using that bracket as a light mount in that manner. Will give it a try.JD McGuire, Owner

Understandable - and good follow-up on the OP's post with useful information w/o hyperbole. I like the direct-light attachment idea, I may have to get one of these now.
