    slugs?

I have read that shooting slugs with a barrel that has a choke is a bad idea because the threads for the choke tubes are soft and firing a slug through it could mess up the threading. Is there any truth to it?

Yes and No!! Yes it can mess up the choke tube, if you have a tight choke in the gun. A Mod or Full might expand the choke tube into the thread causing the tube to get stuck. No, If you run a CYL, SKT, IC choke tube you should be fine! The running of a slug through a choke tube is fine provided the correct tube is in the barrel !!

You will not have any problem with Cylinder Choke.

Full choke is not a good idea but Modified is about the max that you will want to shoot slugs through. Improved Cylinder is considered ideal for slugs.
