Beretta 686 White Onyx?

the auto safetey WAS annoying but.it was about a 10-15 minute fix and half that time was spent getting the stock off.

Does anyone know if Beretta makes the 686 White Onyx with an oil finish stock instead of high gloss?

They make so many models that it gets confusing. I've been to their website but can't answer my own question, except it looks like the answer is "no". Apparently some of their shotguns can be had with either finish.

I'm interested mainly in the 28 inch model, which I guess means it's going to be the "sporting" version period.....correct?

went to turners today, looked at it, it was very nice... but then I remember what you said about the safety and I cried =(

I clay shoot with that safety all the time. In the clinic, BJL yelled at me. As for now, it's second nature. I step into the box, load and click. It's not a problem at all.

At the clinic, I missed 2-3 birds because of that darn thing. 11 rounds since, I think it happened once. Besides, it's a $35 fix it annoys you.

I ended up buying a used Browning Citori White Lightning today instead, much cheaper

You got it backwards. The sporting model comes in 30 and 32 inch barrels.

The one without the sporting designation comes with 26 or 28 inch barrels and the dreaded auto on safety that some are talking about.

A couple of things:
1. I have a 12 ga 28" SP III and a 20g a 26" SP II and I love these guns. The Onyx is the same, just less ornate (cosmetic). As someone said, the 686 platform is mechanically the same—you just pay more and more for the engravings.
2. I LIKE the auto safety—if you are using as a field gun, get a safety, if anyone ever gets hurt with it, the plaintiffs lawyers will get a boost from no safety plus it's a smart thing to do. They'll have a field day if you paid to remove the safety device. Cha-ching. You'll get used to pushing off the safety as you go to ready in the field or on the range in short order.
3. I chose these over the Browning Citoris because they were lighter and more pleasing to the eye at a similar price and with more history.
4. Bought my 12 ga SP III on Gun Broker from Alabama for $1,950—never had been fired, still had the band on the barrel. Deals are out there. Be patient and look.
