SureFire forearm on a Mossberg 590?

Can I mount a SureFire forearm on a Mossberg 590 or will the light hit the bayonet lug?

    Thanks!

It will hit the lug. You need an offset adaptor.

Yeah, but I think they want $100 for it, which is why a lot of people just grind the lug off. I think they sold it as a combo together cheaper, but only back when they had the older model forearm.

Really? Any chance you can post a link or something for the offset adapter. Ive been looking for something like that for my 590.

There are different offset adaptors for different housings, I don't know exactly which one is what, the best thing to do is call surefire and get the part numbers from them.

the other thing they dont tell you is that if you use the offset adapter with the dedicated forearm, that you will also need a different lamp assembly. the one that comes with the forearm wont fit on the adapter. now i have to dish out another 80 buxs i think it was. i already have the other parts. you may want to consider their rail forearm. then you can put any light you want. if not, dont forget about the lamp assembly. if i can get my camera working this weekend i will post a pic of mine.

Not to hijack the tread, but I assume all these extra things needed to fit the Mossberg 590 is not required for a Rem 870 right?

I'm considering the two models with the intentions of putting a Surefire forearm light. Glad I find out about this situation as I was really leaning towards the 590 due to the slide release and safety placement.

                    Thanks.

I don't believe everybody's talking about the same Surefire products.

For the Surefire #623FA type fore-end lights, I'm unaware of any "offset" accessories. Surefire says on its website, if mounting one of these fore-end lights on a Mossberg 590/590A1 with a bayonet lug, the lug must be trimmed/cut off.

BTW, the Mossberg 590A1 type 20" barrelled shotguns have the bayonet lug. The 18.5" 590A1 models don't, so the fore-end light should go on without any cutting.

                      Here's a photo I found on a web search.

It isn't even all 590s that have this problem, only the ones with the bayo lug.

That is correct. There is nothing extra required to mount a Surefire forearm light on an 870. Here's a pic of one mounted on my 870MM:

Have you considered this style(by Famous maker)?

Tip: if you want a Surefire fore-end light for the 590, you need the model 623A01 to clear the bayonet lug
