I put the Hogue set on my 500/590 hybrid and they're NICE. Make sure whatever you get doesn't cover the feed port when the slide is all the way back.

Be sure to take it out and run a few drills with three pounds of ammo swinging around under the gun on that tacticool sling you've got.

Put some money into an aluminum safety and some training. As others have said, you'll start peeling accessories off that thing once you try to make it work in even a low-stress environment. I took a SG class a while back and it seemed like the guns with more mods/doodads/accessories spent more time needed "adjustments" while the closer to stock guns ran and ran.

IMHO all you really need is a decent sling, and if you want a grab and go a side saddle. Then practice practice practice practice cuz that gun will only be as good as the operator.

Sling and sling swivels came off about ten minutes after they went on. Using the sling as the strap for the scabbard now which works surprisingly well and adds fifteen rounds close at hand (also looks cooler than having it swing a mile below the gun...)

Looks good. For around the house it is perfect.

As for me I like heat shields - especially if they take a bayonet.

          short shotguns are fun

grrr. So it appears the 50521 does not have a forend nut and the whole forearm assembly is molded to the actual rails and I can not for the life of me figure out how to remove it. Wondering now if I am just going to have to buy a whole new forend...

Before you spend any money check this video first.

I'm picking up my Mossberg on Friday and I will be looking very closely at the forearm configuration.

If I do buy a new assembly I will keep the stock one just to keep it with the shotgun. No plans to sell it.

I did see that video and a few others but none of them had the same forend as mine. It is slightly different and I don't want to cut or break anything off in order to use it. Will probably just buy the forend assembly off of MidwayUSA or Cheaperthandirt.

I just swapped out my forend last week in 5 minutes. These guys take way to long & 2 much effort as in the end it gets destroyed anyway, I cut it off with a dremel tool in 2 minutes and put on a new forend of choice (see my signature) and viola.

So, a new forend CAN be done quick and easy on a 500 despite it being molded into the tube.

And BTW, you should have a forend nut.. it should be there, but it is about worthless in the stock setup but useful in the cut off and replace setup.

Here is a very crappy pic of mine:

I'm not at home for a few days so I can't grab a better quality one. Pic taken from my Video

Just placed an order for the Mossberg Action Slide Tube Assembly 6-3/4" Mossberg 500 A, 590 12 Gauge off of MidwayUSA for $25.99

Hopefully it will do the trick and maybe once I get to looking at the Stock one off of the gun I'll figure something out but more than likely I will just leave it together and drop it in the box along witht he Original buttstock and pistol grip... I already have the Forend nut Adapter sitting at home with the Hogue Overmolded Forend so my fingers are crossed that I have everything covered for now..

I actually ended up adding the factory mossberg heat shield after burning my hands/wrist. These puppies get HOT and stay that way for awhile when you run em hard. Seems this is your first defensive set up, you are definitely headed in the right direction with a pistol group, ncstar and utg!!

The UTG rail never even made it onto the shotgun, I looked at it and it was just all kinds of ugly so yea, it is still sitting in the packaging.
I do like the Hogue pistol grip but may end up going the adjustable stock direction shortly. It's fun to shoot the way it is, just not exactly what I want. The scabbard works great though for hauling it around the desert and tossing it in the truck.
Still not sold on the heat shield idea. I know the barrel can get hot when ran hard or even just running ten or so rounds through it but I don't normally grab it by the barrel.

Got the Action Tube Slide Assembly in today. Works like a champ with the Hogue Tamer Forend (with adapter nut)...

This is the Pinned Stock Forend (Note it has no tube or nut at all, strickly just the rails embedded in the plastic.

Yeah all the newer base model Mossbergs and Mavericks have that crappy forend set up lame huh !?!

A bit of a PITA but you overcame it and then some good job - looking good a major improvement man !

Far as accessories do what you like your the only one who has to live with it if it works for you do it

No offense intended since I don't know your situation and if your the only one shooting the gun but if not just one serious burn or trip to the hospital for you or your love one or friend and you won't be laughing at heat shields it will be well worth the cost just food for thought .

On a side note : if you'd like a shorter stock instead of that Hogue pistol Grip I actually might be able to help you out with that since I have a almost brand new 60$ 12" LOP Hogue stock I'm going to be selling in a few days I'd even work a deal with you and trade / give you credit on the Hogue pistol grip you have and maybe even that sling and swivels towards my Hogue stock if your interested that is or if you wanted anything else in my for sale pages for it give or take - I currently have a Mesa Tactical aluminum SureShell 6 shot shell holder and receiver rail for sale and a Pachmayr Vindicator Pistol Grip set for sale also links are in my signature below and ether way good luck with your HD scatter gun build bro
