save shells for reloading?

With my recent Saiga-12 purchase I bought from SGAMMO a ton of Centurion rifled slugs and buckshot (2 pellet, .65 caliber each), and 8 or 9 shot 00-Buckshot made by Rio.

I have a Dillon RL550B, and I had planned on saving the shells for the possibility of future reloading. However since these are such cheap rounds, should I bother?

The shotgun still gets many FTF, FTE, however I haven't run enough through her to smooth that russian action out.

Since they are so cheap should I toss the hulls? Or are they as worthy as any for future reloading? Thanks.

Is a Saiga-12 a 12-gauge shotgun?

I have a Dillon 550B, and I'm pretty sure it can not load 12-gauge shotshells.

I have MEC 600 Jr. for that.

yes. it is an "AK shotgun" comes in 12 ga (S-12), 20 Ga (S-20) and 410.

A Lee Load-All as shown below can be had for < $50 and will do a perfectly good job re-loading shotshells. Won't do super high volume, but like most things Lee it works well, is simple and doesn't break your wallet. That said, I also use a MEC 600 Jr. for shotshells.



I've not worked with Rio shells, but I am told they will reload. I use mainly Remington and Winchester AA hulls.

Most hull will take a reload or two, then they might seperate. The skeet shooters I know all use Winchester AA or Remington STS hulls. If the load is right you can manage to ge 15+ loads out of them. I have some 410 AA I've got over 20 loads.

Like the previous poster said, Remington STS or Winchester AA hulls, they are meant to be reloaded. The bases are brass and easy to resize. The steel based budget rounds are crap and do not reload well.

Some of the "meat shooters" at our club reload Rio shells and they love them. These guys shoot from the back fences and reload some seriously hot loads.

The one caution you have to be aware of is the Rio primers may be oversized compared to American primers. If you try to switch to a different primer, you could have issues with the primer being loose or not seating properly.

And to think I was throwing away my Winchester hulls. Didn't think I could reload them. I love reloading... looks like time to buy some more equipment.

Question.. what do you do for the wadding/sabot?

Winchester AA or Super X hulls for hunting loads both work well. The Winchester Universal stuff from Wal-Mart is useless for both shooting (IMO) and reloading.
