Soverighn?

Any one ever hear of Soverighn ( spelling may be incorrect )? A friend has a side by side for sale of this brand. It has a Beretta warranty card with it. It looks as if it was cut down to coach gun length but im un sure. If any one has info please pass it on.

Never heard of it so I did a google search (I'm guessing you meant Sovereign?). It looks to be an A&S Famars, an Italian company, which would make the Beretta warranty card make sense. A&S seem to have some really neat looking guns with some beautiful engraving.

The Sovereign is the highest grade over and under in the Famars portfolio. Built with immense strength the Boss style action has oversize wall dimensions and extra large buttresses to minimise wear. To assist rapid loading, a wide gap is essential and Famars have devised and patented a unique hinge to the end of the forend iron which enables the barrels to swing down further than is normal with conventional over & unders. The sidelocks are a patented pinless Famars design leaving the sideplates clear for uninterrupted engraving. All parts are milled out from solid steel using CNC machines. All frames are scaled to size.

Well the engraving looks awfully familiar so maybe 250.00 they want for it may be worth the gamble. I just cant figure out why the barrel is cut down.

Yeah, upon closer inspection it doesn't look identical but it certainly does appear similar enough that a purchase might be worthwhile. Can you get better pictures of it? Maybe if you send them to William Larkin Moore they can tell you what it is.

Mmm... probably not a Famars shotgun selling for $250-- they make high end guns that start in the $10-15K + range (and that's for really basic models).

Are there any other markings on the gun? Where it was made? Importer? Proof marks? Any additional information on the warranty card (of course, just because a Beretta warranty card is with the gun doesn't mean Beretta has anything to do with it-- I could sell you a Ruger and toss in an old Smith and Wesson warranty card)? Is your friend the original owner? What does he/she know about the gun?

Not much is known about it;the previous owner is passed away thats how I was approached. As for markings there were no others I could see. The warranty card is imprinted with the matching serial number so it definitely belongs. The barrel is missing the blueing on the tip and saw marks are slightly visible on the muzzle thats what led me to figure the barrel has been cut. I dont understand the cut barrel because the rest of the gun is flawless. Any one know what the odds are on replacing barrels on a sxs? Thank you all

If this gun was imported or serviced by Beretta USA at some point, maybe they could provide you with more information about its history.

Having a new set of full-length barrels properly fitted to this side-by-side shotgun would probably be a very expensive project-- so you might want to leave it as-is, maybe have the muzzles recrowned/smoothed out by a professional gunsmith to get rid of the "saw marks."

Now, if it turns out that this is some amazingly valuable old gun that you're buying for only $250, then it may be worthwhile to spend some extra $$$ to get it back into original condition.
