ONLY IF YOU HAVE - General Shotgun Usage Poll

Sorry, didn't mean to yell at the top, just wanted to get your attention.

For those of you who have a shotgun (or shotguns ), what do you use it (them for)?

I am curious because I got into shotguns at first for home defense but my first turned out to be for Trap shooting and when I get an urge to get another, it is an urge for another Trap or sports clays. I think I've resigned myself to using a pistol for HD.

I just wanted to know what others do and hear your stories. The reason I wanted only those that own is because I had a different reason for getting one than I do now after owning one. Yes, more will come, maybe even on for HD.

    Thanks.

I use my Benelli Super90 M3 for everything, people laugh when I say let's shoot some clays. After they see it in action they tend to not laugh so much. It's gets better when I (try) do my Tom Knapp impersonation. http://www.tomknapp.net/

I originally got my Winchester 1200 w/18 1/2" barrel from a friend, while living in Fairbanks, AK. I paid him $50 for it and took it home

I carried around for bear defense when we used to go berry picking.

It's now for home defense locked up in the safe!

I plan on doing some work with it to make it all nice-n-purty someday.

I did buy a new barrel so I could go shoot skeet/trap with it.
Never shot either before, but Fortuna has a pretty active club from what I understand.
Someday I may get out there and figure out what skeet/trap is all about.

      I'm sure it's not addicting!
Booknut...I've taken all my 5+ capacity smileys and buried them in a cache out in my backy....oops...I think I said too much!

Shotguns just aren't me, although I do recognize that there's not a single better longarm to have for home defense purposes. That's why I've got a Mossberg M590 in the safe. I take it to the range every now and then to throw birdshot at targets, just to stay familiar.

i've only used my mossy 500 for sporting purposes. i've had the luxury of never needing it for HD, but it sits underneath my bed ready to go (5+1, filled to the brim) should the need ever arise.

              Home defense. I have a Maverick 88.

The http://www.theboxotruth.com site is making me have a re-discovered respect for 12 gauge Deer Slugs.

Very cool. Sounds like one has to rethink the whole slugs for HD thing.

I like their lessons learned. Very Tao of Pooh simplistic.

                1. Shooting stuff is fun.

                2. Bullet resistant Polycast is bullet resistant. For some bullets. Not so for others.

                3. Handguns are handguns and rifles are rifles. Once again, enough said.

                4. Shotgun slugs are awesome. Tman and I discussed how we are continuing to gain respect for the 12 gauge slug.

my first shotgun was a beretta 1201FP for home defense, my second was a beretta 391 field grade for 'hunting' (that's the one tallengr shot at panoche which I used a lot MORE for trap after that I bought mostly trap guns (beretta 391 target paralell, Browning XT combo (since sold, too heavy for me, too light for tallengr :-) ), and an old Renato Gamba single (still shooting it), plus a franchi 12/20 ga combo that's my skeet/sporting clays gun yeah clays are addictive and 10 flats go soo quick when you are having fun

Well, I only have one shotgun (a Benelli M4 w/pistol grip and Eotech), and usually just use it for target practice (mostly w/slugs). My shottie is more of a tactical type, so I don't plan on shootin clays with it. The main reason I got it is for HD, but it's also really fun shooting at the range.

Benelli M1 Tact. Most impressive firepower I think I've ever handled. I think I'd look kinda funny walking up to the skeet range with this:

I only have one shotgun right now, a Browning Auto-5. Not great for home defense, but great for hunting.

                          Both!

I bought my Mossberg 500 combo at Big 5 for $219. It came with an 18" barrel for home defense and a 28" barrel for trap/skeet/sporting clays. I've seen it on sale for as low as $199.
