I would add that the M1S90 also came in hunting configurations, so the fact that yours won't cycle birdshot shells is odd.

    Hope this helps
    Ditto this!
I've shot bird-shot slugs and buck without a hitch.
I have heard but not verified for myself that lighter trap loads don't have the poop for this but any kind of game load is good to go.
ETA i have a Sidesaddle on mine and no ill effects

Take off the side saddle and see what happens

The side saddle issue reminded me that this was reported to be the source of cycling problems in the past.

huh... wonderful, I'll have to see if I can find replacements for the pins the sidesaddle screws replaced... they disappeared, along with the factory box containing the original stock and magazine tube, when I moved from Fresno to LA...

Of course knowing there are issues with my weapon reinforces the notion I have from time to time of selling it and buying an M4...

I've got the same HK Benelli I bought it in the mid-nineties. No problem cycling birdshot or any light loads of any kind. It's a recoil enertia system so yes the spring might be the difference and any heavy accessories bolted to the receiver. I have a Surefire forend on mine though.

Here I am unloading 8 shots within 2 seconds.

Just went to test mine out for the first time... would not cycle the Winchester Ranger Low Recoil 00 Buck at all... but worked find with the Remington Magnum Loads... this sucks... Do I need to change out the springs...What kind or type are they..???

I have a Surefire forend.. nothing attached to the reciever and just a 6 rd. buttstock shell carrier... will the shell carrier on the buttstock affect the cycling also..?? mine came with the pistol grip...

Here is a Pic.. on how mine is configured: bottom...

Typically the 'Tactical' line will have a heavier recoil spring since they're more likely to be shooting slugs. The 'Field' line has a lighter recoil spring and should shoot everything.

looks like too much weight on the gun for starters..these need free recoil to work properly. And make sure the PG stock is not on too tight and distorting the recoil tube. The field guns should have a light spring and the Tactical a heavy spring but this is not always true.

If it was me I would

#1-Ditch all excess weight over 6 oz or so
#2-Check spring in the bolt, put in light spring from Brownells if u wanna run light loads
#3-Lightly break the edge on the barrel extractor cut with a round file or sandpaper/cratex etc.
#4-Check torque on stock ensuring it is not too tight and distorting recoil tube.
#5 Testfire with known good crimp ammo, let it break in for 100 rounds at least- Mine runs Fed Walmart Value Pack just fine as long as it has a good crimp. Stay away from Soft crimps and shells like Winchester etc..-Look at the shells before you buy
#6 After its running 100% you can experiment with adding accessories to see how much added weight it will tolerate.
#7- After it runs buy a modded lifter from Crums-( Mark Cockrum)for $65...(Google)

I thinks this will fix 90% of these ..

I think that H&K branded shotguns carry a lifetime warranty if I remember correctly. I think that is part of the reason that I purchased my FP6 in 2000. Try it in stock configuration if you still have the parts. I know it's a cosmetic issue with the scratches, but a friend had his FP6 replaced because of a similar issue. This was early 2000's though, I have heard my share of horror stories about h&K customer service more recently.

Thanks for all the info Phil, I'll try and do everything that you have suggested... hopefully I'll get it to shoot the way I want it to... I didn't know the M!S90 were so sensitive to slight weight add ons...Maybe I should just look into getting the M4 instead...Let me see what I can do with this first... I might just end up selling it... and getting the M4...

"Break the edge on the barrel extractor cut"? Seriously? I have to break it to make it work? "Torque" the stock? Yeah, I have a torquer right here, I use it all the time...

Honestly, I'm starting to think getting rid of it is the best option myself. I had no idea that they were so picky... all these years I've just used full-powered ammo thinking that was just the way they are... hell, I can't even use tactical buckshot loads...

Agent - I have an M1 Super 90 Tactical that I got in the late 90's after Benelli started importing thier own guns. Heres the deal... With birdshot its all about the dram weight. I shoot Federal 2 3/4 in, 3 3/4 dram without any problem. Anything less and it wont cycle. Dram is a weight of shot measure. Next time your at Wally World just look for the dram weight on the side of the box. I get my birdshot there and havent had a problem. And thats with a 5 round side saddle attached...

heh... haven't got that far yet, I'll have to see what they're going for. It's got an 18ish-inch barrel, and holds 7+1 with a factory extended tube, and has a factory pistol grip stock. The sights are what were called "ghost-ring" sights back in the early nineties, but I don't seem to see those mentioned much these days... here's a pic I found in some random dude's photostream... http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikefet...n/photostream/

Note that I'm not actually positive that I'll sell it... I'm just annoyed right now... I may try to find a new pin and see if it'll work without the sidesaddle or not and then go from there. I'm certainly not going to try to start breaking things or buying special tools to see if that'll get it working with all ammo types... we'll see...
