First shot gun.

Im looking to buy my first shotgun. I have many handguns and rifles, but just never got around to get a shotgun. I dont know much about shotguns, but I think I want either a 870 Tactical or Benelli Super Nova. Or can anybody recommend another shotgun would be great. Thanks.

Both are good choices. What do you want to do with the gun besides HD? A 18-20" barrel gun won't get you into a Trap & Skeet field to play. If you only want to mess around with it out in the desert then a HD sg will be fine.

Sorry to go OT, but do trap ranges specifically ban 18-20" barreled shotguns?

Back on topic, I don't think you can go wrong with the shotguns mentioned and I am not sure if they are steel or aluminum receivers but have you looked into a semi-auto like the CZ 712 Utility?

Super Novas come with polymer receivers.

If it's between an 870 and a Super Nova, I'll go with a Super Nova. If its between a Nova and Super Nova, I'll go with a Nova. I don't think a recoil reducer is worth an extra pound and hundred dollars. And I never had a feeding issue with my Nova (even with 3.5" loads) and neither has my friend who has a Nova. I have seen non user related feeding issues with multiple 870s.

I should clarify that the 870s that had feeding issues were the standard issue $350 versions.

You really can't beat that Mossberg combo for a first shotgun. For reference, I ended up spending dang near $200 for a 26" vent rib barrel that would match my 870P. You get that with the combo.
