Mossberg 500 owner here

So.. I purchased my 500a years ago cause I was moving into a bad neighborhood. Took it out claying shooting a whole bunch of times, but never really put any accesories on it..

On Monday I decided to purchase a 9mm and while I'm waiting for it I realize my 12 gauge needs some attention.. So I decided to buy it a little kit for it..

I ordered it today and should have it on Tuesday.. It should make me feel like I'm not neglecting the old girl.

Here's what I got for it..

That stock should make it a royal pain to get to the safety, if you care about such things.

I know I'm a bit off, but I like the idea of using a blue (anodized) and wood shotgun for home defense. One rigged up tactical just looks scary! On that note, be sure to repost with the kit installed.

I'll see how the saftey works out after I install the kit. I'm going to try and have a cam here so I can take pics of the tear down and install..

I really need to clean it.. I've completely neglected it.. That being said I'm going outside now to repair my fence because of the wind damage from a tree branch falling. Should only take me 30 ish minutes.. Then I'm bringing the 12g out and will clean it with the cleaning kit I got today

I see that 3 round side saddle above the grip will be in the way. The cheese grater forend (wear a glove) If you use the forward mounted grip make sure when you cycle the pump you don't torque to the right or left. Could easily bend the action guide rods. Too much leverage.

Keep all of your original parts. Dollars to donuts, they will find there way back on your shotgun.

imo it would be a good thing to rethink the modifications you have purchased... before installation; see comments already made in thread.

The above comments, specifically the cheese grater comment, was exactly my concern when I was looking at foregrips for my new Mossberg 500. Though maybe not functional, it will look cool.

I have owned my 500 (actually a Coast-to-Coast Hardware 660) for about 20 years. I recently bought an 18.5" barrel for it, but I really prefer the wood stock and forearm.

That being said, the original stock has a crack in it as does the forearm grip. I was looking at synthetic options, but have decided to look for a nice used wood stock and a "corncob" forearm as formerly seen racked in the front seat of CHP cruisers.

Dutch... That sounds really nice... Shotguns are supposed to have wood furniture...

I'll keep an open mind and see where it leads. I just wanted a pistol grip with a stock. I decided to go this route because this stock is adjustable so I can adjust it to fit me. I got it for just a few dollars more then the pistol grip/fixed stock combinations around here. The other stuff was just "extras" I do plan to keep my original stuff for the "just in case".

I like the pistol grip/stock combo. I used a buddies Mossberg 500 (short barrel) who had a pistol grip/stock setup when I was shooting clays. I hit more that day with his setup then I have with mine.

I appreciate the info.. We'll see how it pans out.. I could always buy a bipod for it. lol

Another thought... You could also get some rail covers so it does not tear your hand apart.

You can get used to the safety its not that big a deal. I just have a plane Jane 500 8 shot defender i bought a billion years ago. Works great.

I personally can never get used to a pistol grip on a shotgun. With a pistol grip, all the pounding is transfered to one's wrist rather than the forearm and shoulder. Fire 50 rounds in a row, and you will know what I mean. Anyway, nice purchase.
