hand stop on a pump shotgun

i was looking to run a hand stop on my 870 but i dont know where to place it. so who here runs a hand stop on their pump shotgun? where do you place it? and why? also any pics would be great too

Hand stops are typically designed to mount to pic rails... and a pic rail foreend on a pump shotgun redefines the term "cheese grater"!

A great option is to install a Surefire weaponlight foreend on your 870. Then not only do you get a proven weapon light on your shotgun (pretty much a necessity for a defensive weapon) ... the light housing acts as a handstop for push-pull type techniques too!

That makes sense... I'd never heard the term ever associated with a shotgun. And +1 to a Surefire fore end being well suited to that role.

a hand stop works as a reference point for you hand to stop at some people run them on SBRs or AR pistols so their fingers dont go in front of the barrel in the corse of fire and others run them as a reference point so they get the same grip every time on the fore end of their gun while running the thumbs forward grip

i have a hard time shelling out the 300 bucks for a light when i have a clamp on light mount and a surefire G2 light already

this. you could even mount a little peice of rail and attach to that or just drill right thru the hand stop.

are you going to put it at the front or back? i'd put it at the back because i apply rearward tension on the pump. i understand most people apply forward tension to counter recoil but i like faster cycleing.

BTW those "Mount N Slot" accessories are designed to attach without need for a pic rail -- either through a hole or a slot... so you'd just need to drill through the fore-end and figure out how to secure the backer.

I have a Magpul AFG gen.1 on my 870. Rail mounted, of course. I would suggest the 870 tactical stock package from promag. I believe they can still be had for around $60. I don't know if you would be interested in the entire kit or not, it comes with the 6-position M4 style stock and a contoured pistol grip(not bad, though it's just as slanted as a standard shotgun stock), but the tri-railed plastic forend included with this package ain't bad. The rails are a little imperfect, but for the price, it's not bad. This way you can side mount that light and it might not even interfere with your grip. That's why I run the AFG. I don't have any pictures of it, but if I remember and you're interested, maybe I can take one when I get home from work.
