    Ultimate HD Shotgun (IMHO!)

Well, I know many (okay, most?) will disagree, but I just saw my holy grail for a HD shotgun. Ultimate scattershot gun porn (for moi, YMMV):

Hunga, hunga, hunga! (Well, minus the rubber butt pad, I could do without that.) Sooooo, how much effort and $$$ to replicate this on a Browning A-5, Remington 11 or Savage 720 chassis? Inquiring minds and all that. 'Scuse me now while I go clean the slobber off my screen.

My Father-n-Law has one that looks like that with a 3 shot tube. I think it is a Remington Model 11, I'll have to ping him and find out. His is from the 40s or 50s.

            Browning A5 Police 8 round...

Search GB and Auction Arms, they come up from time to time.

Or you could try to convince these guys to sell it to you and reactivate it... I bet they dont ship to California.

Yup. Thanks for the additional info. An original example is out of my price range, though I believe a reasonable facsimile could be made for not too many $$$. The biggest challenge would be the extended fore end, which could be fashioned at home if one has sufficient wood shaping skill. If one can do without this, then just a magazine tube extension from a Remington 870 or 1100 as placed on a Model 11 or Savage 720 would get you in the ball park, from what I've read. I'd actually prefer a slightly shorter barrel and mag tube than that on the Police A-5.

Having worked on some forends, and being a woodworker, I can tell you it will not be cheap or easy to build one from scratch. You would need some special tools and loads of time. A mag extension would get you the extra rounds, but it will not have the look or feel of the original. You could maybe splice two forends together using a scarf joint then laminate full length pieces along the bottom and sides which could be profiled to look similar to the original. Good luck with your project. I would not personally use an A5, but rather a beater C&R model 11 Remington which can be had cheap and easy.

Gotta love the hump backs. The fastest shotgun to reload from an empty chamber and tube to date!

Now that's discouraging! Not that replicating an inch plus bore through a foot plus of wood is an easy task. Globe router?

True, but I could probably live with it if need be.

I'd thought of that, but just getting an additional decent forend could be a significant fraction of the price of the base Rem 11/Savage 720 shotgun.

Thanks, and yes, the base of the build, if it ever comes about, will likely be a Remington Model 11 or Savage 720. These two, while certainly less costly in general as compared to equivalent condition A-5s, are not terribly cheap themselves (though I continually see tales of "I just scored one for a hundred bucks at my local gun/pawn shop", which I never see for myself).

I just scored a rem 1100 engraved trap model and a winchester 92 30 30 with dark wood. Both mint condition from my local pawn for 700 otd. Probably the sixth rifle I've purchased From a pawn shop.

Now back to that A5, that is the most badass shotgun I've ever seen. How much are original examples going for?

Apparently in the ballpark of about $1200 (see links in post #6 above). Can likely be replicated with a Rem 11 or Savage 720 for far less, but the custom forend is the problem.

Okay, here's a fresh one up for grabs on GB:

Unfortunately it's being auctioned by a California hater, well, eff 'im. Will be interesting to see the final bid, though (no reserve).

What if you found a plain jane A5, I've seen good deals in my neck of the woods.
