    Benelli m2 vs. m4

Looking to buy a HD shotgun. Wife prefers the M2 because it is lighter and has the comfort stock. I like the M4 just cause it is cool. Can afford one but not both. Is the M4 really much better than the M2 ?.

Avoid a semi for HD. A $300 Rem 870 with serve you well with a tube full of buckshot.

My M2 runs fantantic and I have seen M4's choke of cheap birdshot.

I have shot both and I prefer the M2. Both function well but the M4 gets dirtier and not as easy to clean.

The big difference is the weight. That M4 is just too darn heavy. The M2 is awsome in this respect yet it's reliable and still very fun to shoot.

      Get the M2.

        Neither. M1S90. It'll eat ANYTHING.

i have a M1 Super 90 and would feel well armed using it as a defensive shotgun.

i would however, prefer to use one of my 870 pump shotguns over the Benelli in a HD role.

            M4 has lighter recoil.

I'm totally fine with the M1. When it was new it would not cycle light trap #7s from walmart, it took some buck shot to break it in. After a couple hundred rounds of #7s it cycles perfectly now. I have shoot it so much that the rear sight has fallen off (ghost rings). It really makes no difference unless I am shooting slugs so I gave up putting the rear sight back on.

I have not been able to figure out what they changed going from M1 to M2 but I think it is basically the same gun same inetia operated recoil.

The m4 is gas operated. Gas was supposedly chosen by the marines due to reliability to cycle a wider range of loads. I have not shot this gun so I can't comment

No problems grabing my M1 over the old 870 in home defense. If you do choose the M1 shoot it after you buy it to make sure it cycles the rounds you would use it with in an HD situation

If solely for HD just get a Remington or Mossberg pump with a bead sight and save yourself several hundred dollars. You won't need the "ghost ring" sights for a 0 - 25' shot anyway and the pump will be the most reliable.

You could get the M3 and have the best of both worlds!

i owned M4. It serves me well with Eoteach. I did not have any Jam.
The recoil is fantastic. I am slow with the pump. So, Semi is quick to get the lead to the intruder rather than pump for me.

Heard those M3's are not as reliable though.....Don't recall where I read the comments from.

Pump is better for HD, sometimes the cocking sound alone is enough of a deterrent.
