Saiga-12 Conversion Party?

Just an idea I had.

I recently picked up my S-12 (bought it about a week before the panic) and realize that there are probably going to be a fair number of new S-12 owners out there.

I'm fairly certain that I'm not alone when it comes to a bit of trepidation regarding doing the conversion. Sure, the guides on Saiga-12.com make it look simple, but the last thing I want to do is make a tiny mistake that either reduces the functionality of the shotgun, or choose a lower-quality part, or accidentally violate 922r.

Seeing as everyone who has experience doing the conversion says it's so simple, my idea was to have an event (hopefully in the SD/OC area ) where new S-12 owners interested in doing the conversion can bring their parts and shotguns and do the conversions together, hopefully under the supervision of someone who knows what they're doing (said person can be thanked for their time with beer and/or cash). I've seen how successful the AK build parties down in San Diego are and figure that since this process is supposedly far simpler it shouldn't be too difficult to arrange.

this may be a little off topic but can one use 12 and 20 round magazine legally in california as long as the saiga 12 is 922r compliant. i thought i read in another forum that it was ok but i may be wrong.

Not technically legal due to a 10+ round magazine still a hi cap magazine. How one is acquired since they did not exist pre 2k is the issue.

the person may be an LEO and can have Large-cap mags sold to him, or was an LEO and stocked up on large-cap mags before he retired or otherwise left the force.

Or, I might have an LEO friend that goes shooting with me, I own a S-12 and he was kind enough to buy some large-cap mags and drums that he can lend to me to use while we are both at the range playing with our toys.

So, however the large-cap mag is acquired, the actual use of it in a fixed-mag S-12 does not violate CA law.

Its also not illegal to find 20 round drums that someone accidentally left at the range.

i think we're forgetting the problem of using a +10 round mag on a gun with a maglock - similar to not being able to use 30 rd mags on an AR with a maglock but you can on a featureless, since the saiga-12 by definition MUST have a mag lock, you cannot use a +10 mag on it in california at all. or at least that's my understanding - if i'm wrong, please advise and i will gladly take the lumps for it (as well as the good news).

that 10-round fixed-mag limit only applies in the pistol and rifle AW regs. In the Shotgun AW regs, there are no mag limits at all. yes, it has to be a fixed-mag in a S-12, but there is no requirement that it be <11-rounds. YOu can have a fixed 20-round mag on an S-12 without violating the shotgun AW regs.
