converting Mod single choke to Choke tube inserts

how successful is this modification. I am interested in investigating having my barrel worked on so I can use choke tubes.

I have an old pump shotgun which I love just fine but am stuck with a mod choke on it.

wondering who has done this and if they were happy with it.

who in California does a good job of this?

I have a Ted Williams model 200 (I got when I was about 14 or 15 years old) which is basically the same as a Winchester 1200. 12 ga. MOD barrel, ventilated rib with a 2 gold bead sight alignment.

I was just thinking instead of buying a new gun for turkeys or ducks - I would just do this. Is having a 3.5" chambered gun that neccessary? I will just continue using 2 3/4" chamberings in this gun.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

I thought about doing that do one of my 870 barrels, and it would have cost me more to install a screw in choke than it was to buy a new barrel.

You could try Carlson's choke company http://www.choketube.com/instal.html
They will install and include 3 of their chokes.

MINIMUM OUTSIDE BARREL DIAMETER MEASUREMENTS FOR CHOKE INSTALLATIONS:
.825 / 12 ga. lead shot and steel shot system
.805 / 12 ga. lead shot system only, no magnum loads or steel
.700 / 20 ga. lead and steel shot system
.890 / 10 ga. lead and steel shot choke system

Threading Shotgun Barrel for Removable Chokes

I had Carlson's thread my Benelli Super Nova Tactical (with rifle sights) for the Tru-Choke system. It cost around $170.00 but this included three extended chokes.

I am satisfied with the job because it adds a lot of flexibility to the shotgun and now I can pursue may more shooting opportunities with this shotgun. For example, a week after having the choke job done, I shot a few dozen feral pigeons for a farmer using a modified extended choke.

I could not have done the same with the original cylinder choke because the pattern was too thin.

Thanks for the posts and info - I have updated my profile to show I live in SoCal, south Bay area.

thanks and any others please post your thoughts.

ALSO, for you that have been using choke tubes, (I never have) -- what Brand do you recommend? Does it really matter? After the barrel has been opened up and threaded -- are they all not interchangeable?? or is it somehow made specifically for 1 brand?

              thanks for the info

I just feel like this is a better idea than chasing down multiple barrels, especially since I can get a good tube for lead or steel, or even coyote/predator loads, etc

You will most likely want the choke style that is standard on your brand of shotgun. Rem Choke if you have a Remington; Winchester choke if you have a Winchester. It would be a little dumb to use a Winchester choke in a Benalli.
