Now I gotta start looking for my own hand gun, can't be shooting parents' anymore!

ya should have saved up the tiny bit more for th 590. more fun, more capacity, looks better, and is a bit more reliable.

now get a knoxx spec op for it so it doesnt hurt so much with those 3 inch magnum slugs at max dram! makes em feel like 9mm

Congrats, don't overlook a .22 like the Ruger 22/45 as your first handgun. They are on sale at Turner's all the time, are cheap to shoot and the skills you develop with it will carry over to the higher calibers later.

I sold a bunch of rifles and my pistol that I didn't shoot much in order to buy 3 guns that were more practical for my needs. I never ended up buying another rifle or pistol, but I still have my Mossberg 500 and I'm glad I made the decision to go with that first.

I have an 18" barrel for keeping it at home and I can take 2 minutes to put on the 28" barrel for bird hunting and deer hunting. Shotguns are great do-all guns if you don't need to shoot long distances.

That Mossberg Big 5 deal is sweet. I almost went with it but settled on the 870 and am happy but would probably be just as happy with the Mossberg and a field barrel for $15 less than a deal I worked out with Big 5.

Oh, have you done a study on the reliability of a 590 vs a 500?...NOT! The 500 is the do it all, will last forever shotgun. Its cheap, versatile if you get the 18.5" & 28" combo and doesn't care if you don't clean it, but you should.

The 590 is a marketing gimmick to charge more for the same gun.

If you want to pay more...DON'T. Buy more shells. Unless you plan to hunt and use magnum shells then don't bother with the Knoxx stock. Nothing is more annoying than a shotgun sliding back and forth across your face.

If you shoot at clays the loads are light and you will only have a sore shoulder at the end of the day not a bruised face :-)

Congrats. A 12 ga shotgun is the do-it-all firearm. Used for self defense, hunting, skeet shooting, ultimate man stopper, etc., etc.
