    Winchester 1300 Defender?

Is there a way to somehow improve the ergonomics of, or remove the slide release button on this gun? It is difficult for me to quickly manipulate.

    Thanks

Why are you having to quickly manipulate the pump action release button?

When you are firing the gun, pulling the trigger releases the action and the pump may be worked to load the next round. If you are dry firing, the same thing happens. The only reason for using the little slide release button that I can think of is unloading live rounds where it's not legal to fire them. In that case, I'm not sure why you would have to do it in a hurry.

I'm just trying to figure out the situation, because I've never had an issue with mine.

You have to press the release to rack the first round. In a home defense situation I would prefer to not get caught fiddling with the slide release.

Store the shotgun with the hammer down. That way you don't have touch the release.

This is how I store it. I was just wondering about alternatives. Thanks.

The two responses above are the best things to do. Not only does using the slide release change from shotgun to shotgun, you effectively have an unloaded weapon when/if a home invasion happens.

The whole "racking the slide" to load a round is Hollywood bullcrap. It looks good on TV, it's not good if you want to defend your life. If you absolutely must have an empty chamber, just store the gun with the hammer down on an empty chamber. But even that isn't quick enough. The best possible thing to do is to keep the shotgun loaded, one in the chamber, with the safety on and practice drawing it from where it sits then switching off the safety and (dry) firing.

The slide release isn't made for quick action in a defensive situation and isn't supposed to be used during one.

leave the slide back and just drop one in competition/combat style

same thing but without firing the first shot... or keep doing it after the 8th if needed..

however unlike the guy in the video you do not need to lean to the side in order to do this.. a side saddle is good for this in a HD setup..
