Jackandblood on shotguns:As I understand it, semi is geared more towards sporting. Then again, according to counter strike, it's imperative to put 3 quick into center of mass. Also from what i hear you dont want a pump shotgun for home defense as the pumping sound is "cool" and will actually attract more thugs. Like starting a party up in here.Comment

Buck Shot = #4B, 3B, 2B, 1B, 0, 00, 000, 0000 (.240" - .380")
I hope this clarifies things.. and I'm going by memory here.. so it might be slightly off... Also this is the American Chart, Foreign charts run a bit different.Comment

As above, check the box. If it doesn't say "steel" someplace on the box then it's either lead or a non-toxic substitute like Bizmuth or Hevi-Shot. The non-toxic substitutes are, generally, going to be way more expensive.
Most often what you'll find in light bird or target loads is going to be 7, 7.5 or 8 shot size. Those are what you find in the value packs at Mal-Wart, be it Federal, Winchester or Remington. Those are going to be acceptable on pretty much any range that specifies "birdshot" only.
