I have a Mossberg 930 and use it for trap. I know 2 others that have them but they probably don't have a shell count as high as mine (over 1000). I think you would be hard pressed to find a new shotgun that was a better value for the money/ I haven't seen the CZ up close, but I've seen some Escorts and wasn't impressed.

Stick with the name brands. I have a 930 SPX and recommend it. Stoeger, CZ and all the other off shore manufactured guns may be fine, until they need service or parts. And is this a HD gun or a sporting gun? Self defense and you want lowest bidder? I understand budget constraints, I really do, but compromising on life safety equipment is just where you have to draw the line. A new SPX will set you back about $600 with DROS but other than adding a light you are ready to rock right out of the box.

If this is merely a sporting/play gun....experiment and let us know how some of these other guns work. Some of the Chinese know offs and the Charles Daly's look fun. Personally I don't have $400 to experiment with either. Save up for a used Benelli, Remington 1100 or 1187 or a new SPX Mossberg.

        Good luck in your quest.

Stoeger is a subsidiary of Benelli. I believe that the parts are totally interchangeable.

Well I have a pump for HD, but I would love to pick up a semi for that purpose as well as for just throwing clays.

So the 930 is easy to find and somewhat in my price range?

Ummm ... "piston"? Nope, the 930 series is gas-operated without any piston. My 930SPX has been rock-solid following breakin, BTW.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned a Saiga 12 yet. Aren't they ~$500? I don't have one but AK's are simple to breakdown and clean.

Why not just buy a used 1100. I used to see em on GB for ~$400 or less.

There is a plastic part on the Mossberg 930 that will sacrifice itself if you put it in backwards (ask me how I know this).

But when it broke I never noticed it, just saw some pieces when I cleaned it.

Told Mossberg about it, and they sent me 3 replacements just in case I have a case of the idiots again. I think it is a common mistake (although now I pay more attention when I put it back together and have not made that mistake since).

Some people don't like the plastic safety on the 930 either. It doesn't bother me, but there is an aftermarket kit that replaces it with machines aluminum. I like the safety where it is - I can see if it is on when I bring it up to my face. I have less wasted clays that way.

I had an M1 Benelli. It was the best shotgun I ever owned and I've kicked myself a 1,000 times for selling it.

I am going to get another M1 if I can, but I will also add the M4 to the gun cabinet.

Currently, I am looking long and hard at the Stoeger semi auto built on the Benelli blow back design. I won't weight in on quality until I can get a few more questions answered... but this may be a really under appreciated gem.

Benelli is Benelli. My Benelli Nova is the gun I would grab to defend my family. It is the gun I would bring with me if I went camping. It's the gun I'd want in my hands if I was facing a grizzly bear or an armed home invader. So please believe me when I say I am WAY biased towards Benelli... but dollar for dollar, I think the Stoeger is not getting nearly the recognition it deserves for value and quality in the semi-auto category.

If someone can point out something I'm missing about the Stoeger semi autos... please do... but for dollars and cents = quality... a used Stoeger semi auto may be an exceptional buy.

I recently got the Stoeger 2000 and took it to yesterday to shoot some skeet and it performed flawlessly. I bought it based on online research as well as recommendation by a clays shooter.

The manual talks about a break in period of about 100-200 rounds with heavy loads. I was using Walmart $21 dollar 4-pack yesterday without any hiccups. I believe the loads are 3 dram 1 1/8 oz and it cycled fine.

If you do get it, just be sure to give a good cleaning and lube it up a bit before you take it out. I've never disassembled an autoloader (as this is my first) and it only took a few minutes to figure everything out. It is a simple shotgun with few parts.

I think it is a great bargain. It also comes with 5 choke tubes for any needs you might have.

Yea I'd love a Saiga but I dont feel like having a bullet button or some weird looking stock to be honest.

And if I could find a benelli with 18 inch barrel in black I'd pay probably 600 max, but even on gun broker there few and far between.

At this point unless I can find a M1/M3 for a decent price I'm probably going to end up with a Mossberg or a Stoeger in the same specs as the M1. The 1100 is just like the M1, unless I can find it in a reasonable price and condition I'll probably have to keep looking.

you still need a bullet button regardless of stock/pg for a saiga or any other semi auto shotgun

They're under $400 brand new, but outside of CA. After the CA-compliant mods (bb), shipping, and transfer fees, you're around $550~$600 OTD. If you want it converted, expect to spend more.

I'm looking for a 930 SPX myself right now.
