    A budget Semi-automatic

I took out my 870 the other day and had a great time, but I really want to look into a semi automatic. I ended up choosing the used police 870 pump over other used police 1187 semi. I was looking around and I would prefer a compact model with as short of a barrel as I can get here in CA.

I saw this CZ utility, http://galleryofguns.com/genie/Defau...=All&pid=&inv=.

I actually think its perfect but I don't want to exclude anything else in that price range. I also want a simple field strip, granted I've never shot the cz but I'm sure it isn't terrible to maintain. What other brands/semis should I look at?

I've always recommand a Rem 1100. There are millions of them and you can get a used one for under 500. I use a stock one to compete in the 12ga skeet events.

Yea those do look interesting. I should have mentioned 2 things though. My budget is roughly 520, which includes DROS. Also it has to be synthetic. I'm preferring 20 inch or shorter barrel.

Are these 1100's very different from the 1187?

I picked up a Tristar tactical 12ga awhile back. 20" barrel, matte black synthetic. Its a 5+1 and most of the parts interchange with the other Tristar G2 models..so different stocks, forends, barrels and trigger groups will work on it

I paid a tad over 300 from sportsmans warehouse

Wow that's a sweet looking semi! It looks very similar to a Benelli m1. Where you recommend looking for prices? It looks just as good as the CZ utility as well and more shells.

Is this domestic made? Good quality?

I like the Mossberg 930. Don't have one, but my Mossberg 500 has done me better than my 870. I'd be inclined to pick up a 930 over a Remington 1100 or 1187.

The Mossberg 930 is a nice shotgun too. Piston operated compared to the Inertia drive of the Benelli and Stoeger models.

Its actually kinda funny, I've been wanting a Stoeger 2000 for quite a long time. I was hearing it was basically just like a Benelli and great quality for the price. Are all models CA legal even with the pistol grip? I found a few on gunbroker but am hoping that more websites have it in stock.

Plus should I go inertia over piston?

Yes, the Stoeger are California Legal even with the PG. Any Benelli dealer would/should also carry Stoeger.
As for the Inertia Drive... You need a good break in with hot loads and the gun will run 100%. The piston drive guns will probably be less sensitive to light loads.

I got 930 spx with pistol grips. The damn thing eats anything from winchester 00 and 2 3/4 slug to walmart federal bulk. I love it and would recommend it. Look it up on youtube. Go GIANTS

I got the Mossberg 930 a while back and I agree with all the others that it rocks! I got the security/field combo that came with both 18.5" and 28" barrels. The 28" barrel is vented and came with chokes. Plus the 930 doesn't use O-rings like some of the other semiautos out there.

The 930 combo complements the 500 combo that I got from Big-5.

IMO, you can't beat the Mossberg combos.
