Remington 870P question

Hey guys,

I picked up my trade-in 870P a few days ago and I'm looking to swap out the wood furniture for synthetic.

My question is, how do you remove the fore-end from the fore-end tube assembly? I already have another fore-end that I'm going to put on it.

Or do I have to get a fore-end with the tube assembly already on it?

I don't want to ruin the original wood fore-end.

Use your 870s bolt carrier. It will fit right down in those notches in the forearm nut and you should be able to unscrew the forearm nut to remove the forearm without damaging the forearm it's self.

Hi CDMJ,

I have the wrench to get the nut off, now it's just a question of removing the wood fore-end from the assembly tube. It's on there pretty good and I don't want to ruin the wood fore-end.

Any other ideas?

It didn't, I put a little pressure on it, maybe need to put more.

+1... if you don't have a forearm wrench, use the bolt carrier as a key. Works just fine. If it's sticky, give it a little WD-40 or some type of solvent on the nut to loosen any corrosion that might have gotten in there. But usually it will turn out with no fuss and no damage.

Slide the forearm unit off as you would for routine disassembly. Retainer nut is at the front, you'll see the notches.

Hang on to the wood furniture. Those are getting more scarce than hen's teeth and are getting very spendy on the secondary market.

Thanks guys, I got it. Just needed a little more pressure. Just didn't want to take a chance in ruining my wood furniture, as it's still in good shape for being used.

@BigBoyPinoy - Sorry, but I will be keeping the wood furniture, if I ever want to go back to original.
