    Rossi 12 Gauge single shot

If you're a 17 year old on a budget would you get this gun for home defense?

I have a H&R Pardner too. It's a fine little single shot, and the same price as the Rossi. I gave the Rossi a good look over and molestation, but wasn't impressed. Felt kind of cheap to me. Ask to see both of them when you turn 18 and see for yourself. Good luck.

+1 on the H&R. Put a butt cuff with five extra rounds on the stock and then learn to run it well and you would be well armed.

Look for an auction local to you. You can get out of production pumps for about the same price. Guns like Sears, High Standard, Monkey Wards, Savage can be had for 100-200 only. If you do bid remember to add about 20%+ dros on top of your bid price, as most auctions charge 11-14% + sales tax and dros. Example $150 + $16.50(11%) + $16.23(9.75% tax) + $35(dros) = $217.73. If you do want to go, know your prices before you go.

And you can always send it in and get more barrels for it on the cheap

Remember a light weight gun is going to kick quite a bit
I would suggest the following for your setup
                      chop barrel to 18.25"
install butt sleeve for extra ammo
                      reduced recoil home defense loads
                      and the limbsaver

in regards to the buttsleeve for ammo, the standard uncle mike's is kinda big for it. i'd look for one that is made for small stocks.

also, a limbsaver alone works fine. you don't need to get reduced recoil loads. just my opinion of course. i shot 2 boxes of slugs and 2 sets of trap no problem.

oh also, the rossi has an ejector. it makes the cool 'pop' noise when the shell comes flying out at mach 2 to your face.
