    Which 20 ga. semi-auto??

    Hello all,

I am a newbie just getting back into the shooting thing after a couple of decades.

So I ask honey if she wants to join me & try skeet shooting and she says, "hell yes".

I'm thinking the best weapon for her would be a 20 ga. semi-auto, mostly to absorb some of the recoil, make her more comfortable, a tad easier to operate.

Would you gentlemen or ladies care to suggest a particular weapon to look for, either new or used, let's say under a 1000 dollars (gulp).

    Strictly a skeet/trap/clay gun.

    Thank you in advance,

    Welcome!

The best thing you can do to find the right shotgun is to try different ones before you buy.

A bad fitting 20ga will kick and hurt worse than a good fitting 12ga.

My better half went through 4 shotguns before she settled on the one.

The second best thing to do is take one lesson from the local range coach....he/she will best see if a gun fits.

We'll see how she'll react to different guns first. See you on 10/3.

You've got a great opportunity to learn some basics and try some different guns. Make the most of it. Wish I was in the area.
1000 will easily buy a good semiauto. Even if you buy one like an 1100 or 11-87 that is not set up for trap or skeet you can take the difference and get a trap or skeet barrel.

I believe it.... serious shooters, and those who want to be serious, will do that. I've yet to find the complete nexus of size, weight and fit in a clays gun that my wife will roll with.

I want to thank everyone who posted, lots of good ideas expressed here.
I appreciate the input and will follow up on your suggestions.

I did visit the Remington website, very impressive selection of autos available in various gauges and configurations.

I'm thinking I might like one of those for myself, but which one???

For now, I'm off to pick up some shells for our lesson.

I'd always liked the Browning Gold, but the 20's seem to be as rare as hen's teeth...
