    Old Double barrel Shotgun

hello, I am new to this so hope I am in the right area. I have an exposed hammer double with no makers marks. All major groups have the serial number but nothing else. It appears to be Stamped Extra Royal on the rightside of the receiver. The stock is wood with hand checkering. Not the best quality.
The fit is really tight but the areas not exposed are rough finished. Any one got an idea who made the shotgun or where I can research it? I have tried all the places my search engines bring up.

Usually a double with no marks on the barrel will have some kind of marks on the receiver. There should be little symbols on the receiver that tells you what region of what country the gun came from.

That said ... don't show me the symbols cause I can't tell ya !!!

Take the front grip off and open the barrels and the gun will come apart.Check the water table for any marks.[the flat that the barrels hinge off of].There should be some there. The very first thing that should be done is check to see if your barrels are steel or damasicus.Damasicus barrels look kinda like a spring that was weld and pounded together you will see little circles. If it is have it checked out by a gunsmith because it can't shoot high pressure loads of modern ammo.People still shoot them with special ammo only after the ok of a gunsmith.

I have taken this shot gun completley apart and the only marking on the gun is the serial number on all parts and the engraving on the rightside of the reciever. it is steel tube barrels, not Damasicus. It is a 12 ga. had that checked. Th only thing wrong with the gun is on of the firing pin nipples is missing and I am having another made. It is a real puzzle to me and all my gun nut friends.

If the gunsmith checked it out then just go out and shoot it !!!

I would like to but if it is really valuable well you know I might want to trade it for other interesting firearms.

Post some pictures of it. I'm sure once someone here sees it, they can tell you what it is.

It sounds like a old tradename shotgun. They were produced by name makers and stamped anything you wanted on them. They were sold at old hardware stores and such back in the old days.If you go to the gunbroker expert forum and post this ?? there is a couple of guys who may give you the real maker of it and the value of it.Most times the value isn't much because they are utility guns but you may luck out.Post back the answers.

If there are no proof marks on it chances are it is American made.
