Just go long and enjoy the extra round. If you must, get an extended choke tube to even things up.

Mossberg 590(a1) 18.5 magazine extension *Project COMPLETE*

Yeah, I think modifying a choate would be the easiest route. I was reading a product review on midway, the person said the +2 was 6" and stuck out 1 3/4" past the muzzle break on an 18.5. Cutting it flush isn't a problem, just capping the end will require some work. I wish I had a welder so I could shorten the tip and reattach it back to the extension. Maybe a pipe cap from the hardware store that's the same dimension? Another problem that I have to solve is matching the parkerized finish on mine. If I do succeed in cutting and capping, I ll probably just use some dark gray rattle can and call it a day.
I had the mod done to my 500 with 18" barrel

Wow. That looks good prc! Looks factory! How much did it cost (if you don't mind me asking) to get the magazine tube support (I don't know the proper terminology for the piece) moved forward?
TKM: if I get lazy, i will just run it long! What's an extra 1 3/4" anyway! HahaasigpicComment

I must say, that is one of the coolest 500's I've seen. I'm in the process of converting my plastic furniture to wood. Just trying to find some for a good price. If no success, I ll pick up a checkered wood set from havlin. $50+shipping I think.. Then after the park finish on my sg completely gets scratched, I ll look for a duracoater to refinish it. When it all comes together, my shotgun might be almost as cool as yours...sigpicComment

Just recieved my choate mag extension (thank you midway) and it is running long past the muzzle break. It goes over about 4.5 cm over.. No worries tho, I have a magazine extension now (no thanks to hoodini from gun connection. Probably not ever gonna see the custom mag extension or refund.. But I'm a strong believer in karma, so he can cherish that $65). Jwlaxton was right about the choate tube. The end is crimped inwards to provide a lip to retain a plastic plug. One of the calgunners posted a machine shop service in Fremont today, I PM'd him, we'll see if he can help me shorten up and modify the end of the tube.sigpicComment

The BATFE will not approve a Form 1/4 for a SBS and issue a tax stamp, unless the applicant has a valid CA DOJ BOF Dangerous Weapons permit.
No CA DOJ BOF Dangerous Weapons permit = illegal SBS.sigpic

I still hope you'll get the Max100, but, try the +1 Vang Comp in the interim. It is shorter, obviously, than the Max100 and that has the benefit of less leverage/more ruggedness. A 20% increase in the tube capacity is still positive.
