I don't know what kind of stores you have in Socal but I just went to Scheels in Sparks last weekend and they had EVERYTHING, over/under, side by side, break action, pump, auto, EVERYTHING!! From $250 all the way up to $35,000

They also have a nice indoor archery range to try out bows.

OK, in line with the topic start, Ill give you guys one to argue into the mix - the Valmet doubles with interchangeable barrel sets.....right in that price range, too.... I auctioned one off on consignment in the shop last month or so ago, and it really was a nice gun for the money, plus you can get other barrel sets for it.....

How about a Holland and Holland shotgun. Way pricey but ive shot a few and they are very nice. Makes my mossberg ( which i know its cheap but I bought it for the field not simply trap/skeet) look like comparing a 1976 buick to a new corvette.

Holland and Holland being compared to a Mossberg? Thats worse than comparing a Rolls Royce to a Kia.

In the case of the picture above, (I'm going to assume you meant rib instead of comb) the rib looks very tall because the barrel is an unsingle barrel. The single barrel is positioned in the reciever in the same position as the bottom barrel of the O/U barrel combination. This is actually highly favored by many competitive trapshooters for numerous reasons, one of the most noted being the bottom barrel, or unsingle barrel in this case, gives the perception of less felt recoil. Higher ribs are generally used on guns where the stock/comb has been altered and raised for a more comfortable mount and/or higher point of impact. By raising the rib or using a taller rib the shooter can retain the desired sight plane down the rib just as it were if the comb were low and the rib were low.

Yes pyro ruger does still make an o/u and youre the first one to mention them. I am a ruger fan but have heard nothing about their shotguns, anyone have any information on them?

Nono, it depends on what RRL owner/past owner you talk to. In general the RL usually has a bad rap for poor quality, especially for a $1k+ OU gun. Of course like all guns there are some people who have had no problems with them. I've shot one before and it kicked like a mule. I wasn't fond of the auto-safety which is becoming common on OU's aimed at the budget minded consumer. I have seen two different RL guns come part when being shot. Both appeared to break the locking lug resulting in the gun breaking part with the forearm in one hand, the stock and reciever in the other and the barrel laying on the ground. If a person has $1K to spend on an OU, my opinion is they will be better suited buying a nice used Browning which will surely outlive the RL and replacement parts are plentiful should a person need to fix something which is often rare on most Browning O/Us.

BMC, I have heard about Rugers reliability not showing up in their shotguns, and have pretty much left them off the list of cotenders. Now with hearing your story I will definitely leave them off the list, especiall with an auto safety, I may be a rookie when it comes to trap but not when it comes to firearms. I think that may be a great idea for a beginner but, I think it would become a real pain in the butt when your not used to it.

Beretta or Browning. I personally had been using a high-grade Miroku (a pretty BT-99 which they make for Browning) and switched to a BT-99 Nickel Steel Special Trap last season.

Understand this: a TRAP shotgun is USELESS for anything but Trap! The sights are designed to facilitate doing one thing -- breaking clay birds at essentially 36 yards away. That's it. Do NOT buy a TRAP O/U if you want to do other things with it...

That Stoeger tactical SxS is a friggin' laugh. I have to say, I was intrigued by a Stoeger Condor Outback recently -- just kept having to go back and pick it up and play with it... See pic below. Didn't buy it but they cheap, however, I have no opinion of Stoeger guns.

I really like the Browning Citori White Lightning model. My dad bought one brand new and loved it immediately.

This is a good SG for $1500. I shoot one in 28 gauge.
